Accumulator tank

Anyone ever use an accumulator tank on the outlet side of your water pump to help relieve the hammering effect of the pump and do they work. Guess it is suppose to help relieve the air in the water lines or something

I'd be curious to know that as well. I have seriously thought about it and even looked at installing them, but have not done so.

We have a 2 gallon accumlator, it did reduce the banging.

Also helped:

carpet or something UNDER the pump.

The flex hose that you can attach to the pump,

and gray pipe foam stuff any place you can identify banging pipes when the pump runs (in the w/d closet we had considerable banging of the pipes, you could almost see them jumping)

They are wonderful! But they don't work with Smart Pumps.
I have played around with different combinations of pumps, etc. along with the accumulator tank.
The best net effect is to use a smaller pump with the accumulator tank.
What it does is even out the output pressure (taking a shower while running another faucet), along with reduced noise at night for the trip to the john during sleeping hours. A short flush and the pump won't even come on. It's like a shock absorber...the tank hold a certain amount of pressure, and uses that until it needs more, then the pump kicks in.
I won't be without one...

No doubt the accumulator would help, if only by reducing the cycling. We have installed the electronic silencing kit available from Camping World, and find that if works well. All the other tricks suggested by Mrs. CG help too.

I have installed a Smart Sensor pump and it is a lot quieter than the OEM pump. Also used some bubble wrap between where the water pipes bend up against the wall. One thing I like about a little noise is that it tells me the pump is working.
