Remote for DVD/Satelitte

Quick question - In April we are buying a 2002 3295rk Montana (after inspection) but currently live in Europe so can't go check it out. Looking at all the pictures I wonder where do you put the dvd player and sat. receiver? I imagine in cupboard over TV but do remote controls work with door closed? Don't want to bother my prospective seller - I've bugged him enough.

That is where we put ours. Our doors have glass in them and the signal works through that.

We use this device:

Finished off with a brass bezel in front of the cabinet:

I use Xantech in my home, http://xantech.com/products/ir_products.htm. Also some of the newer Sat receivers use radio frequencies rather than ir thus the receiver can be anywhere. You might want to check those out as well.
The nice thing about xantech or hotlink pro is that you can control multiple devices (both your receiver and your sat receiver). Both work great when your components are out of sight. Hope that helps.

I use the Harmony 890 universal remote which is an RF device and NOT IR. The RF will go thru the windows with no problem. You have to tape a rf device in front of each ir device you want to use and then use the rf receiver )about the size of a mouse), it sits in the cabinet next to the surround sound receiver. The Harmony does it all. Great device. Spendy though!

Phil,
Great suggestion. I use the Harmony 670 at home which is an IR, but the 890 would be perfect for his application. They are a little pricey, but the Harmony is a true universal remote that eliminates all the other a/v remotes. It eliminated all the frustration from the rest of the family trying to get all the components on and set properly.

I don't have the Monty yet, but I assume that the Harmony can be also used to control the Fantastic fan. I checked to see if the fan settings was in their database but I couldn't find it.

I have rarely been so statisfied with a product...
