Keystone recalls some Montana fifth-wheels for slide-out issue
Came across this article this morning.
Keystone RV Company is recalling certain 2018 Keystone Montana fifth-wheel trailers. The switch for the slide-out room may not have circuit protection. Without circuit protection, if the slide-out switch wiring shorts to ground, there would be an increased risk of a fire.
Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will install an inline fuse for that circuit, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 8, 2018. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 18-320.

Inline fuses sound like a cheap fix that will be more prone to failure. Only way they will fix mine is with a fuse at the fuse panel!!

Sounds more like an excuse to get you to go to a Keystone dealer and spend money on other stuff while you wait for the fix. Send affected unit owners a DIY fix... can probably be done faster and cheaper(cost detouring to a dealer and the cost of the time waiting not doing anything more important to the owner)

If it is a recall requirement by the NTSB or Feds, the repair must be done by a certified repair facility or dealership. Working at a Harley-Davidson dealership we had many nit picky part recalls that took longer to get to the dealership than it took to fix but it’s the way it was.
That is if you wanted it done for free. If you paid for the part you were welcome to do it yourself but it wouldn’t be considered “fixed”

Free isn't free if I have to pay 200 in fuel to tow my rig to a dealer, and wait hours to days for a dealer to perform what is more like "busy" work (putting in a simple in-line fuse seems like that to me). But then its all relative... have to balance all costs and time to decide which is the most effective solution.

Has anyone had this issue "fixed" at a dealer? My dealer can't get me in before our next trip, so I'd like to fix it myself. Where does the fuse go? Any pictures of the "fix" from the dealer would be greatly appreciated.

Hutch,
Did you get a notice from Keystone on this recall? If not, your unit should not be impacted.

Yes, I did receive a notice. My dealer can't get me in before our next trip, but I'm perfectly capable of installing a fuse.

Interesting. Few years ago, recall for Norcold refrigerators, heat issue. Potential for fire. My dealer sent me the kit, no charge, and I installed myself.
