Black Tank Valve

One more problem, although another minor one , has anybody had problems with there black tank valve not holding,we camped last weekend and we emptied our black tank and flushed it until clear water was running, the unit was level. Closed the valve, put the cap on and went home.Came back to the same campground this weekend, leveled her up and when i took the cap off, surprise, about three gallons of the nasty water came pouring out at me, hurried up and put on the hose, We completely let the tank drain the week before and when we checked the valve, it was in the closed position, has anybody ever heard of this, do not mind that much, just need to be prepared cause next time we have a no sewer hook-up and when i go to dump i do not want that big of a surprise when we get to the dump station and take the cap off.

SHEESH! What a weekend you had! Your cabinet front falls off and your black tank valve leaks too. Have no advice on the cabinet fronts (carpentry is not my strong point!) so will leave that for the warranty work you plan to have done. About the black tank--assume that you are talking about getting ready to drain after you had been there and used the toilet. Otherwise I can't imagine where the stuff came from if you had a clear run at the end of last weekend's drain. However, in regard to the valve leaking, here are two bits of info. 1. We have cut a piece of wood to insert between the valve handles and the edge of the compartment. That way the handles stay jammed shut and nothing can inadvertanly jostle them loose allowing yucky stuff to leak out to get you when you open the cap. The only way the handles can be put in an open position is when you remove the wood. 2. We always have a bucket at the ready just below the cap to catch any of that yucky stuff in case there is a complete valve failure--which we experienced with another unit we owned and believe me once doused is ten times smart!! A bucket would be handy if you are having a slow leak as well, More warranty work it sounds like. Good luck!

I use a clear elbow with a valve that I got at Campers World. I can see if anything is going to leak out when I take the cap off.

On ours we installed a valve at the hose connection to stop that problem. I hate surprises like that.

Are You sure that it is black water? The piping from the galley tank tends to hold some water and it will drain to the lowest point when travelling. I have a cap with a garden hose connection and I leave the garden hose cap loose so the galley water trapped in the lines can drain. Try this then add water to the black tank and see if the line fills again. This way You will know if it's water left over in the lines or actually a leaky valve.

That is really bad news. We never had that happen to us. Now it wont. We added a valve on the end of the pipe. Now we remove the cap hook up the hose then open the end valve. if anything is in the pipe it stays there until that valve is open. We had trouble with the galley opening. Found out if the handle wasn't horizontal the drive shaft for the front room slide would open it a little. Treecounter
