Tire Monitors

A tire monitor for the trailer sounds like a good idea. My 2011 Dodge truck has it on it, but nothing for the trailer. What would you suggest?

Thanks,
Dick

You''ll get arguments, but I've used the Pressure Pro System (PPS) for several years with magnificent results. Whereas I've had blown tires in the past that created damage to the rig, since having the PPS I've safely been able to stop before any problems occur. Of course, the brand of tire I use also has something to do with it.

We use the TST system and are very satisfied with it. I like the size of the monitor and their customer service is outstanding.

We have the Pressure pro but it sounds like both systems work well and have good customer support. The Syetem is one we would not be on the road without.

Have used the Pressure Pro System for 6 years on 6 different 5th wheels and haven't had any issues. Our provider and service for our Pressure Pro System is Mike and Pat McFall, they are full time RVer's and are very honest and the support is second to none.

This trip I'm only using 4 sensors just for the 5th wheel. Didn't want to install the steel/metal valve stims on the 2011 Chevy, we have ordered a 2012 Chevy and will wait and install the steel/metal valve stims when we get our 2012.

Highly recomend the steel/metal valve stims... The Pressure Pro system has saved us on two different occasions, cracked wheels on the Cambridge.... Low air pressure is the biggest issue with tire failure. Low pressure causes side wall flex, hense you have heat, and heat is a the cause of many tire failures. Get a tire monitoring system of some type... Happy Trails.....

Bought Tire Minder TPS500-HD, hate to admit it, but bought it from that well known camping convenience store with outrageous prices. It works fine thus far. I got the HD version because I wanted the pressure range to cover 110psi should I go there with the GY tires.

I have the TST system and have not been overly enthused. 5 of the 6 monitors stopped working during the first two years and I got busy and was not using the travel trailer so never sent them in under warranty. When I finally did send them in they first told me I could send in $125 for an extended warranty, which I did. Then they said no I could not do that I would need to upgrade the entire system. I asked about new batteries in my senders and they finally said they could do that. I had four of them replaced for my Monty, one sender was 35 psi low in it's reading, one was 12 psi high and after three months one quit working????? I will be calling them next week when I get back home and see what they will do about it.

Thanks, everyone. Just put one on my list of things to get before going full time!

Just two or three comments:
  • I bought my Pressure Pro system before Mike and Pat McFall came on the scene. My vendor is out of the business, so I called them with a programming question. They were quick to serve my needs. Now that is service.
  • My new Ford has a built-in tire monitoring service. However, the system does not tell me the pressure of the individual tires, nor does it tell me which tire is the problem if it alarms.
  • I moved my Pressure Pro from my old truck to my new one because it gives me more info.
Being able to check each individual tire's pressure quickly, both on the truck and on the trailer, before starting out and/or during the trip is comforting, particularly is you have had tire failure in the past as I have.

We have a Doran 360RV. I've been pleased with it. The few questions I've had have been answered thoroughly and quickly. It was easy to set up and the display is good sized and easy to see. I'm a lot more comfortable knowing that I will get a warning when I have a tire problem. My Mission oem's (made by a Chinese Grandmother using ground up used children's school erasers) suffered three failures in less than a year with about 20,000 miles on them so I'm a little hyper about tire failures. We drove through Yellowstone and the Tetons this past two weeks and I was happy that if I did have a problem I would have caught it immediately.

We have the TST system. It's been working great and I really like being able to monitor both pressure and temperature.
