I am going to spend all winter in Spokane, WA. Should I skirt or not? can I leave my gray water open or should I close them? Do I need to weather proo f my sewer line? Help I can use all the info I can get.

Bob, how cold does it get in Spokane? There are several things you can do to help get through cold weather and we'll try to help you out.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Bob,
One thing to remember when skirting, you create a nice place for critters to spend the winter. Our winters in Spokane over the past few years have not been as cold as they could be. Even so I would suggest getting heat tape for your water lines, and make sure you leave your furnace set warm enough to keep the basement warm. Dont want to have your holding tanks freeze up. What park are you staying at this winter?? In my opinion, Steve is our cold weather expert. He spends the holiday time in the midwest and could probably walk you through every step to keeping your coach from freezing this winter.

Also make sure your sewer line is a constant slope downward (not lying on the ground and then having to go uphill to get into the sewer). Any water left standing in the line may freeze. I made that mistake once (with the gray water open) and had to thaw out underneath all the way to the tank before I could even dump.

Bob,
Sounds like you are new to Spokane, let me be the 1st to say Welcome! I have been in Spokane for the past 12 years. Growing up in the midwest, I have to say our winters are mild overall compared to what I am used to. The winter temps average 28-35 degrees. Last year we got as low as -3 degrees for 2 days. The rest of the time we were right around the freezing mark.

I might recommend that if you are gonig to winter in Spokane, by that I am talking 4 months, you may want to see if you can get a PVC pipe for your sewer line. It will solve your freezing problem in the sewer line because it will be smooth inside. The Spokane Valley was starting to crack down on that so it may not work. Just a thought.
