Service Rates

What are the dealers charging for hourly service rates? The dealership I bought my Montana from has been sold. This spring I had a vent cover blow off from my bedroom vent and as I wanted the Maxx Air covers put on, I took it to the dealer and was pretty well floored at the service labor charge. I took it there because whatever service I had done before was top notch, but there are other top notch repair places that are more reasonable. Was just curious what others are paying per hour.

Virgil, I have seen a shop rate around here at $85/hour at a dealer. The independent shop where I took my last TT was $55/hr.

Virg,

Can't help you with the dealer rate but I just bought the Maxx Air and put them over three of my vents and wanted to know what I saved myself so I looked on Camping Worlds site. They charge $15 per cover which is pretty reasonable but if you knew what you were doing you could probably do four or so in an hour so that would be $60. I know Camping World charges by the item and not by the hour and it's not exactly what you were asking but maybe it will give you a reference point.

Virgil,

(Amazing that I can spell your name)

In the last 6 weeks I paid $45/hour in Carlsbad, NM and $85/hour in Flagstaff, AZ. I think it is where you are and what kind of competition there is around.

Just got a quote today to put a heavy duty shackle kit on and they charge $85 an hour. I think this is a tad to high!

Yes it could be considered a tad high but it's the price you gotta pay to have these toys.

At least it seems the $80/85 dollar an hour is pretty much a national thing. Unlike the fuel business where one dealer is doing his best to keep prices down while the dealer just down the road is gouging us.

I think $85.00 and hour is high money for a parts changer. The worker is only making about $10.00 to $15.00 and hour for his work. The dealership is making the rest. They are also making lots of bucks off the mark up on the parts, maybe 50%.Jesse James is alive and well at the RV dealerships.

When I had that work done, it was $90/hr. I hear they are talking of raising it to $100+ /hr. I also hear a couple of the better guys are seriously thinking about starting their own shop. They are saying about $60/hr which is probably more in line where it should be. I am positive they will get all the work and more than they can handle. There doesn't seem to be an over abundance of RV repair techs, which surprises me at these prices.
