Campground

Planning spring trip and looking at some long days. Anyone know of a decent campground between Amarillo and Denver?

Don't know about between, but as far as I'm concerned, Oasis RV Park in Amarillo is very nice. $20 a night and if you spend two nights you get the 3rd night free. Take in Palo Duro Canyon, the Grand Canyon of Texas.

South of Denver, in Littleton, is Chatfield State Park. It's the best.

I usually look at Passport America campgrounds on any route we take. We can almost always find them and at half price, we find it one of the best ways to keep costs down, when on the road. Knowing we are not there for an extended stay, all that is necessary is that it is easy to get to from the road, can acomodate our size rig, sewer and water, etc. We have had very good luck so far, and have saved a lot of money.

We like to stop at Cedar Rail RV Park on top of Raton Pass for an overnighter on our way to Colorado. Right at the very top of the pass. Nice little park. Nothing fancy. Easy in and out. But nothing else in the vicinity, so don't plan on eating out unless you want to drive back to Raton or up to Trinidad.

I should have been more specific. I will be traveling on 287 north from Amarillo through Denver. It's over 450 miles so I'm looking to stop between the two.

We usually stay at the Cedar Rail Campground between Raton, NM and Trinidad, CO. It is at the very top of Raton Pass and we always enjoy staying there. It should come at about the right distance/time for your trip from Amarillo to Denver. This assumes 287 to Dumas, then 87 to Dalhart, and on to Raton where you would pick up I-25. This is certainly the way I would go from Amarillo to Denver. In fact it IS the way I go.
