Full-Time Insurance in CANADA

We are looking for full-time insurance coverage in Alberta, Canada. GMAC said they will cover us but when we register our fifth-wheel and truck in Alberta, we will no longer be covered by them. Can some of the Canadians offer us some direction so we can get coverage prior to moving to Canada (if at all possible)? (FYI: we are Americans moving to Alberta right after Christmas 2007.)

There is a company called Aviva that specializes in full timers insurance. Direct Insurance in Calgary and Swartz Agencies in Lethbridge carry it, so you should be able to find an insurance company up north that carries them. They do the 5th wheel, then find another company for your truck. Usually the company that carries Aviva will also have other insurance that covers trucks.

Thanks for the information smc. We are having a very difficult time because we are not Canadian. One insurance company said they will only insure us if we have been living in Canada for 6 years and the many others we spoke to said they will only insure us if we are Canadian. We have found an insurance broker in Calgary who is helping us. Thanks again!

We are insured with State Farm. They operate on both sides of the border. They have served us well in the past.

Thanks OntMont,
Are you fulltiming? My State Farm agent here in Anchorage did not have a good fulltime package (liability and such was missing). Before fulltiming, I also had State Farm which served me well.
