Fix list is growing

We purchased our 2005 3650 in April of this year. It has been in 4 times now. We live in E Oregon and we purchase in Pasco, WA., 4.5 - 5 hour drive. When we got is home the carpet was soaked between the slider and the fireplace. They said it was probably the seal since it rained on the way home. No problem they said except they just got the correct part in. I don't think that is it though, we were camping on the coast for four days and the 3rd day the floor was soaked again. No rain.
Carpets under the sliders are filthy. Fine black dust covers the kitchen floors and the adjacent walls about a foot up settling on the little baseboard trim. The plastic items in the kitchen drawers have it also, bags, measuring cups, etc.. Static I guess. Dark black strips on the "beige" carpet under the slider on the dinette side. I have to mop the kitchen floor before we take our shoes off, it coats the bottom of your feet.

They have already emailed on the leak, "thet can't duplicate it".

The shower floor seems somewhat unsupported. If you step near the drain it does flex quite a bit. I am not a petite person but is that normal?

I have broken two of the curtain holders and they are ordering me the metal ones at my request. He did not want to since they would damage the wall vs breaking them selves. Mine broke because I bumped them, not pulled on them.

Our a/c freezes up too. They adjusted something on the roof unit. We have not been in 100 degree temps since that fix.

So, leak and sliders. I am concerned since this is going to be the "retirement home" and a big investment that was "my idea".

Any suggestions?

Debbie

Cheif's has been a great service dealer for us. We only had a few minor items for mfg repair, but they handled all with no problems. In fact, out dinette had a very small crack two days before our warranty expired and they replace the table. If you think you are getting the run around, ask for Ron, he is the owner. Keep us posted.

Thank you for your words of confidence for them. To often you hear only bad, so you go in with doubt. They have been good with replacement of items such as our table also. The leak terrifies me though. The potential of slow hidden damage. We will see. Thank you again for your post :O)

Gee, I hate that I might add to your anxiety, but the powdery black "dust" might be mold spores. I have seem mold attach itself to plastics. I think I would have someone who knows about molds and mildews take a look. If your carpet was wet for an extended period of time, I would be suspicious. I really hope that I am wrong.

Hi Claude and Debbie, we also have a 2005 3650RK and love it..I noticed a black mark on the dining carpet where the slide's come in... I called Dale at (lippert slides) and he told me over the phone how to adjust the slide. You need to move the slide 3/4 out and make the adjustment. He told me to do it slowly check your lippert booklet. You need to lower the outside and that will raise the inside edge as it come's in.. that should keep the black marks from marking your carpet in the dining area. They have been several post's about loose water connections. You might unscrew the panels in the basement on both side's and check the water line connections. removing the panels doesn't take any time at all. as far as the black dust and streaks ??????? There was also several posts on leaks from the shower which were caused by the drain not having a rubber seal (only silicone) so you might check that. Dale from Lippert also told me that he have a new product called slide slickers 35.00 a pair for the slide's coming in on carpet and that will also take care of the rub marks on the carpet. I thought Christa and I had the only 3650RK in the whole forum.. I am happy someone else has a unit like ours MOST have gotten the 3400. I hope this information that I have given is helpful.

Thank you and I am really glad to have someone else with the 3650 too! I was feeling a little out of place.
We had looked at Montana's the previous year and loved them, but it was not the time. I found this one online in March and did everthing online. We just did the final signing the day we picked it up. Isn't it awesome! Please keep in touch!!!

Debbie,
Please pay careful attention to what Stiles Watson says. I hate to say it, but I think he may be on to something. You have more than 1 situation here. The black rub marks where the slide comes in is one thing. That could probably be fixed with an adjustment to the slide. The fact that you have leaks and black powdery residue even in your kitchen utensils in the drawer scares me. I think you may have a serious problem with mold. This is not good, and it is also not a good thing for your health! I urge you to look into this immediately!!!

We have the same mushy floor around the shower drain. I haven't yet checked to see if it just needs support, or what. It's on my short list for our return trip to the dealer.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I noticed the floor around the shower drain is a bit spongy as well. I haven't yet checked it out, but it is on the to do list as well.

Re the mushy feeling around the shower drain. Now we had the shower drain replaced with a really good one in the time between the Pre PDI and the PDI complete with a real seal..there have been no leaks. There are blocks of very dense, looks like styroform, under the tube for support. The tub feels very solid. You will note that the tub does not sit on the floor of the camper so there must be some support under the tub and a bit of "give" needs to be there.

I had a similar water problem. Dealer couldn't find the leak. The 3400 is my 1st rv and it could be my last. I'm not a "handyman" so repairs and maintenance were always given to the "specialist" and I paid the bill. How times have changed! I should have paid more attention to my "do everything" father. I can't express enough thanks and gratitude to all of the knowledgeable people in this club for the common sense solutions and suggestions you so graciously offer to the rest of us. Excuse me for venting some of my frustrations. Here is how my water leak was solved. While at the service dept., I asked about the outside cover on the back of the refrig. We opened the cover and I asked about the white plastic hose inside the compartment.............. problem solved. Apparently the hose had never been placed between the louvers to drain outside the rv. I hope your leak is as easy to fix as ours was.

Your dealer should have mentioned that on your PDI. However I know a lot don't and there are probably some members here who do not know that. We didn't with our first either. That hose comes from the factory inside the cover. A lot of people put it back in while storing the unit and is one of the "set up" things you have to have on your list. We just leave ours out all the time and so far has not caused any problems.
Happy trails.........................

We picked up the trailer from the dealership last weekend just before my husband left for the 8 hour drive there and back the dealer called praising the work that was done and that is was ready.
They replaced the Apollo 1/2time oven, it had gone bonkers and kept shutting off, same thing I read in other posts. Need to check the mfr date though.
They tightened all the water fittings and could not duplicate the leak. I have metal curtain holders now, but paid for them.
Now the black dirt in the kitchen. The call claimed all carpets were shampooed and all slides were checked.
I put out the slides to pack for this past weekends trip and the carpet under the dinette slider had black stripes 4" to 12" in width. The floor was covered in black road dust again and so were the wall approx. 8" up on all walls next to both kitchen sliders. The counters were coated also. If they had shampooed in the dinette area they must not have put the slider out. Then I noticed all four screws were up and unsecured on the legs of the dinette table(?). I am at a loss on that one. What do the screws get secured into, and where exactly? Why would they do this or would it happen on it's own?
I know the black dust is road dust now. My husband crawled under the slider and there is a coating of it on the curved underside of the side. There seems to be a gap under both sliders that is directly open to the under side of the slider and leads into the trailer itself. This visable even with the slide fully in. Does this sound normal? We have just told the dealership to send us the new seals for us to install and if that does not solve the problem I will need to go to a closer dealership like Bend, OR. I don't think I should have to clean the floors before and after each trip or track black footprints all over my beige carpet. Plus wiping everything down with cleaner before I put anything on a counter. Help, suggestions?
Oh, and the A/C froze up again after they fixed it the time before.
I am disappointed.

Run..do not walk..from this dealer..you have problems that they do not want to fix. Call Montana Customer service and ask for a person from Team Montana at the service center.Have your dealers name and location handy and be prepared to forward the E mails describing your problems and experiences with the dealer.
