12 volt systems are drawing from the battery(ies) and when dead there is nothing to draw. The converter only charges, does not provide 12 directly.

Well actually the converters job is to reduce 120 volts AC down to 12 volt DC to supply power to all of the 12 volt appliances and accessories in the RV and simultaneously charges the RV batteries.

My unit says hooked up to power 24/7 while in my pole building. The converter does its thing keeping the batteries correctly charged. If you are not able to keep your unit plugged in 24/7 you must either remove the negative battery cable from the battery or install a battery disconnect switch on that cable. All of the small items that draw on the batteries will kill them within a few weeks or so if not plugged in or disconnected. Things like propane/ CO2 detectors and more are drawing battery power all the time.

You had it stored with the switch off, but did you turn it back on when connected to your shore power? If not, you have no power from the converter to the batteries, because with the switch in the off (open) position, power can not flow back to charge the batteries and you will not have 12 volts going to any of the circuits that are connected to the fuses in the main panel. There are two breakers on the wall behind the batteries, and one of them feeds the 12 volt circuits that do not come out of the main panel, and the other breaker, at least on the rigs with hydraulic systems, feeds both the hydraulic pump as well as the 12 volt portion of the main panel, so that 12 volt line feeds the panel as well as feeding the batteries from the converter. That battery switch, instead of having On and Off, should really have Open and Closed for labels, Open when the switch key can be removed and Closed when the key is turned where it can not be removed. We have full timed for over five years and I have not yet had a need to turn the key for any reason.

exactly right rohrmann, I also have never turned that switch. To me its only use would be to work on something 12 volts in the panel. But I am anal and would most likely physically disconnect the negative battery cable anyways just to be shur.

Quick follow-up. Turns out the converter was bad. I have read the posts on hear about the poor service issues. Hear is one for the good guys. Yesterday, my dealer replaced my converter in 14 degree weather with 10 inches of snow on the ground in a open air garage. I live 200 miles from this dealer, and based on the information i was able to give them they contacted Montana, got the converter shipped to them under warranty and arranged for me to bring my camper in for replacement. GREAT SERVICE from all!

Yes. Let's send your dealer some sales! I was watching this thread today and am glad you tracked down the issue. I'm not sure why the Micro
Wave was the only thing that ran. Isn't the ceiling fan 120a/c? Water heater, tank heaters, heat pump (A/C)?

Not to get this tread off subject, but I spent dozens and dozens of hours scraping/sanding/spraying rust reformer and truck bed liner on the frame of the 3455 sa I purchased used. Apparently it had been towed on winter salted roads which really did a number on the frame as far as rust goes. The powder coat was coming off in sheets.
If you have to tow your unit on salted winter roads, MAKE SURE YOU HOSE OFF AS MUCH SALT RESIDUE AS YOU CAN or trust me you will regret not doing it.
