LANDING GEAR CLEARANCE

This 3605 2008 is not my first trailer but I've never had one with so little clearance on the landing gear. I'VE TOUCHED DOWN THE FEET SEVERAL TIMES AND EVEN BENT THE PAD ON A TREE STUMP! This raises the question of whether this is considered normal or is there a way of adjusting the whole landing gear up 4 or 5 inches? We love our Montana and love this forum and thanks in advance to any who reply with suggestions and similar experiences.

Hard to understand why your gear is so close to ground, ours are plenty clear. If your trailer sits level or very slightly nose high when hitched you should have clearance. Maybe more input from you or a picture would help. Larry

If you've bent the pad on a tree stump ... perhaps you should return to the pavement???? Your fiver is not light on pin weight ... is your truck squatting? What is your truck? Is it an old hitch ... or new hitch that perhaps wasn't installed correctly as in too far to the rear of the axle centerline? Give us some more info.

My truck is a 2005 F350 with air bags and the hitch is a superglide. The pin weight is about 2200 #s and the whole rig sits nice and level. My dealer (not a montana guy) is a large one and agrees that the feet are too close to the ground but sees no adjustment. I believe this is a design mistake. I've seen other Montanas on the road with only about 4" clearance. I'm taking it to a Montana dealer and suggest that the whole landing gear be moved up about 5". I believe this is possible. By the way, the stumpI hit was on the dirt road in a campground and was only about 2" high. THANKS AGAIN PEOPLE FOR YOUR interest in my problem.

We have owned several 5th wheels and the 2006 Cambridge 358 by Keystone had the lowest landgear clearance of any 5th wheel we have owned. We never had a issue with hitting anything. However we never boondock and always stay in RV parks.. There is no adjustment excep on the pin box and the 5th wheel hitch. But you said your were level when hitched to the Truck???? Just a situtation you will have to deal with..... Happy Trails....

We had a 2008 and it's landing gear was so low it was scary. While it was still under warranty , we had them (dealer) make adjustments to have the whole gear raised. We had a 2006 and now have a 2010 that was/is not an issue with ground clearance with the landing gear. I am not sure why the 2008 had an issue, but it was real. It can be fixed.

Don, Thank you SO MUCH for your confirmation that there is a design mistake in my trailer's landing gear. I know others here just thought I was exaggerating or that i didn't have the feet up or something but the problem is real and I will be moving the whole landing gear assembly up by about 5 " so that my clearance will increase from about 4" to 9". I measured the outside square pole on another 2008 and it was about 5" shorter than mine but the owner told me that the l.g. was switched out on a trip to Texas. Again thanks for the support to all who responded and I hope that this discussion will help others with the same issue.

My landing problems are a little different. I have a 5.5K Onan, Splendide washer/dryer, 4 big 6 volt batteries, and bunch of clothes up front. My landing gear just does not want to lift that much weight. Incidentally, we found that the Atwood gear that was installed is only rated for 2400 lbs. We are having them replaced with 8K Direct Drive gear. That means that each leg will have it's own motor. We hope this will get rid of the dreaded clicking.
