Refrigerator doesn't seem to be cooling

I'm heading out in a few weeks on a trip, so I plugged my rig to cool the fridge. It's been plugged in for a few days, the cooling fin temps are not cooling below 40 degrees the interior of the fridge is around 50 degrees in the mid day and at night it gets to 32 and the interior is around 40 degrees.The freezer works great mid teens during the day and single digits digits at night. The ambeint temp is in the high 90 low 100. The fan on the back of the fridge is coming on and off. How do I check to see if the heating element is bad, and the themistor. Should I install extra fans in both vents on the exterior. I have a dometic RM 2862. Thank you.

A fan inside would help. Also you may want to add additional fans to the outside if it's really hot there. Here is a link to a video about the outside and a pic of the fan I use inside and my unit has a fan.

The 110 fan I put in the outside bottom vent pointed up to help push heat out the top has really helped.
