Well, I dropped it, too...

I have no manufacturer to point my finger at, no friend gabbing at me, or vice versa. All my fault. I got on a spot, chocked the tires, yanked the hitch handle...then noticed that it might be a bit better a yard ahead. So, I took out the chocks, jumped in the cab, engaged the gear shift and gently pulled ahead...BANG! The universe cut me some slack, this time. The front of the Monty dropped five or six inches straight down onto the Bedlocker extruded rails, which are flat and two inches wide. The back of the hitch nudged up against the front of the tailgate. I stopped, calmed myself for a couple of minutes to prevent further stupidity, then chacked the tires, lowered the gear, lifted the Monty off the rails and inspected everything...everything works, the skin under the front of the Monty isn't even torn and the bedrails are just slightly deflected along their length, but still aligned well enough that the tonneau still operates just fine. I guess I was going so slow that the Monty was kinda "decanted" right onto the rails, which spread the load along the truck bed sides...
Don't try this at home, kids. Leave it to the self-professed professionals!

Dave,
I almost did that when I was preparing to install the bed saver. Glad there was only limited damage.
See ya at Goshen.

It happens to the best of us!
Sorry to hear it happened and glad it wasn't any worse.

Yup, been there, done that. Bought my bed saver right after that. Was changing a tire and rolled up on some blocks and pulled the pin, then decided I couldn't break the lug nuts loose, so pulled forward with the pin disengaged.....big noise, and I new what I did.

I hope this never happens to me. I'm checking out the bedsaver for my Superglide 16K now...

Glad you came out, for the most part it sounds like anyway, ok.
I'm a little paranoid about mashing the rails on my truck so I installed the
Blue Ox bedsaver. Well, Blue Ox put in on the hitch gratis (see earlier posts.)
Again, glad it worked out well.

Dave, quick run to the store and buy a lotto ticket. Maybe your luck will hold. Could have been much worse.. Like we used to say in the Navy: Plan the dive, Dive the plan...

There's those that have and those that will!!! Glad yours didn't hurt that much, mine cost me a new tailgate. Those suckers are not cheap these days. Then had to have it painted, Whoa! I wish BlueOx made one for the Trailersaver hitch...

Drive Safe!!!!!

I hope you all have better luck with blue ox than I have. They sent one and doesn't even come close to fitting, when I called them they acted like they would help but just gave me a run around. good luck.

ours didn't look like it would fit and then we realized that the hitch could be raised one notch and it worked perfect

I can't find a bedsaver for our 20.5K Pull-Rite on the Blue Ox website. Any ideas? Dave, you're right on about following the plan. But that $50M lotto prize is mine!

Phil, I don't think you'll ever need one with the TrailerSaver hitch. It's the one hitch that I'm aware of that gives you a definite hook-up. I usually check the jaws to make sure they are closed after I lock the lever in it's travel position. I queried Hensley about a bedsaver and they assured me that there would be no need for one.

Orv, I hate to say it but I have already done the dirty deed outside the Keystone Service Center while at Camp Keystone. Yep, it can be done. I didn't get it all the way in (I think I forgot to put it in the load position and it didn't catch), and forgot to check it and the DW got in to drive it to the dump site and KAAAABAAAMMMMM, down it went. Cost me a new tailgate. I agree, in a perfect world, on a perfect day, and you double check the jaws, it shouldn't have happened, BUT IT DID.....

Dave-- Contact Blue OX and ask them directly if they make a bedsaver for your hitch! If not, they may ask you to send them your hitch and they MIGHT make one for you and it could be for FREE! They like to make bedsavers for people since then they can use it as a template and take it from there! Can't hurt to try! Let me know what they tell you. We had them at our Central PLains Rally and they MIGHT be at the Fall Rally IF they responded to my call to them to call Exnavydiver!! That could be a BIG IF , however! PM ma or email me your results. Dave MC have you heard anything on it yet?? Email me!

Ohhhh, nooo, Dave! I live in fear of dropping mine on the bed.

What impresses me the most, though, is your willingness to own up to making the mistake. I think I'm king of mistakes, though.
