It's quicker to remove the cab to do almost any major work than to leave it on. The hoods of these new trucks are so full you can't get to anything and the cabs are designed to be removed.

I bought a 2002 duramax, new. I traded it with 190k miles and 8000+ hrs on the clock and the only trouble I had was fuel injectors which were replaced under warranty. It had a lot of idle time at job sites, waiting for this/that or the other. Don't think you could do that with todays trucks with the BS emissions stuff

We spend about half of the year on the road. Sitting in a Navy campground in Calif now. In the last year or so, in both military as well as commercial campgrounds, we have noticed that a big percentage of the tow vehicles are Cummins powered Dodge/Ram trucks. There are some Ford and GMs too but they are in the minority. We have been as far North as Minot and Grand Forks, ND; as far East as Charleston, SC; as far South as Vicksburg, MS and now in Southern CA. Maybe I just see more CTDs because we pull with one.

I have always been a fan of ford for gas rigs but when it came time to step up to a diesel 1 ton dually I bought my first Dodge! Hands down the Dodge is a better truck for towing with the Cummins and heavier build. You will NEVER regret going oversized on your tow.

Matter of opinion,,,, had the Ram and now a Ford F350. Better all the way around except the Ram is priced lower.

The turbo charger repair on the Duramax can be performed in 2 hours less time by removing the transmission instead of the cab.

We have a number of Cummins Diesels in heavy equipment and they are good engines however!
Look at the large fleets of light duty and medium duty trucks and tell me how many use Dodge?

That is a very good point. I have worked for two very large companies and neither allowed Dodge/Ram in their fleet. I have a lot of respect for the fleet managers as they have access to a lot of unbiased data.
However, I have asked fleet managers in the past why no Chrysler products and they said that It was due to poor fleet incentives not actual product issues. Also the Chrysler products are not quite as popular with clients.

Actually ALL OVER THE U.S. the Hiway Patrol uses DODGE CHARGERS! Our Ambulances in the area are Rams... But in the final analysis, I BUY WHAT I LIKE!...

Acutally the IDEAL combo is the Cummins with the AISIN!!! Aisin is heavier duty than the Alison..

I have owned two Dodge trucks, never again!
They are cheaper, and I mean cheap not inexpensive.
Can't deny the quality of the Cummins, but the only other thing I like is the availability of a 6.5' bed dually.

I have also owned 3 dodge trucks and not one time has anything been made cheap. Even did a trip from Alaska to Florida in a Ram 1500 pulling a 26 foot travel trailer weighing about 7,000 and still no problem. Went from Alaska thru Canada on the Alcan Highway into Montan to Kansas and hit a many mountain pass and even though it was rough going sometimes the truck was able to make it. While I will not debate who makes a better truck...I will stand behind Dodge any day of the week against any other truck out there. I currently own a 2014 3500 Ram dually Diesel engine and that one has been great also!

one word for a duramax (liftpump) Feed the CP3 and filter. Take the work off of pulling the fuel from the tank to the pump. you can also read up at the duramax forum.

I use the Tradesman for my construction great truck but I have a longhorn for my TV nicer truck for the long hall!

I have the Tradesman by choice. I could have bought any trim level I wanted but I don’t like leather or carpet. I got everything I wanted in the Tradesman package. But then I am not the kind of guy that gets distracted by the cute bells and whistles. As stated before I buy based almost exclusively based on the expected task the vehicle is expected to perform. In my case, that means getting the truck muddy in fields with a tractor or hunting so I want the easy to clean vinyl floors
On the other hand when we purchase our long trip F150 soon yeah it will be top end trim package because it’s purpose is to be as comfortable as possible on long trips
