This young body just ain't what it used to be!!

But, it is hard to convince myself of that. Today's duties started at 7:00 a.m. with a stop by Home Depot for a square edged transfer shovel. I am sure you can see where this is going. Today's project was to get all the supplies necessary for an above-ground swimming pool installer to get started Friday. First trip to the supply yard and got disappointed because the trusty dually would only hold about a ton and a half of sand. The bad part of this is that the yard was closing at noon and I needed to get four tons of sand to the house in that time which meant three trips and no time to put the sand where it belonged (The supply yard was twenty minutes from the house). A plan was put together which meant double-handling two loads, by placing the first two loads in the driveway and moving them later to the back yard to the install site. The third trip went straight into the 6 cu ft wheelbarrow. At a little after three, the last load of sand was in place. Double handling meant loading and unloading about six and a half tons instead of four. Now for a person who just celebrated the 23rd anniversary of their 29th Birthday, this should not result in the pains and aches in places that I have never felt pain before. Soaking in a hot tub provided no relief. I am sore, Cathy is sore (she helped also with the shovel work), but we got-r-dun!! Hopefully, in a week or so the 12,000 gallon addition to the house will be available for just lazing around instead of working.....NOT!!! Still have to construct a deck for it, finish the dock additions, finish the Montana mods, etc. etc. etc. I am really needing a rally and a week at the beach like no other year. Come on August!!!!! Thinking back, I have tried to figure a way that I could have engineered the work, but there are times when good old manual labor is the only way, and this was one of those times. The sense of satisfaction at least offsets the pain!! That is my story and I am sticking with it!!!

Actually, I dont mind the water bill, it will only be about 150 dollars. The sewer bill upsets me, since sewer is based on the water bill, even though not a gallon will enter the sewer system. I am hoping the town will at least give me some relief from the sewer bill. We will check this week.

If you really get sore, there's always the Circling of the Montanas at Quartzsite next January.

Hang in there.

Bingo in my part of the country, they have trucks that deliver swimming pool water and you don't have to run all that fill up through your water meter.
About the aches and pains of shoveling 6 tons of sand. That is what you feel like every morning when you get out of bed at my age. So get use to it.

RV, boat, jet ski, pool, I learned my lessons one at a time. Bingo you figured out how to become an expert before 50. Go for it, life is short.

For those needing to move several tons of any type of product, you might try renting a dump trailer. Sure saves a lot of shovel work. We have already told our kids there will be no money left. But the farm will be theirs. There will be money but there will never be any more land. And yes Bingo the older you get the worse the recovery time for the muscles. Happy Trails...

Bingo,

Great project and a great team indeed. I love manual labor. My mind doesn't work as good as it used to!

If I had that much sand to move around, I'd rent a Bobcat!

A dump trailer can't make it into the back yard, and I had considered a Bobcat (that is what the pool installer will be using to prep the site, but I wanted to limit the impact of the bobcat on the yard). The only way to the pool site is through the front yard (kept up by a lawn care company). If there would have been an easier way I would have done it. After Church today, I got the wiring and the new GFCI receptacle installed that will service the pump for the pool. My part of the prep is done, after the pool install is finished, then I have to build a deck around half of it (21 4x4 vertical posts to support the framework 50" off the ground. Cathy told me that I could work evenings and weekends on it (nice of her, huh??) The other half of the pool will be open so we can have a view of the river from the pool. Gotta get all of the luxuries in place before retirement, Hee Hee!!
