Wet Bolts Again

I have the Armor Trailair system and of the 14 wet bolts 4 won't take grease. I'v read a lot of the post on wet bolts but couldn't find much info on the Road Armor system although I expect they are all similar when it comes to the bolt. I thought I would change out the zerks but I'm confused about how to change them out. can the zerk alone be removed or does the larger hex nut the zerk screws into need to be taken off?

On the MorRyde wet bolts you can just change the zerk. Can't speak to the Armor Trailair but I would think a visual should give you the answer.

not sure the zerk is the issue. Usually it's what's behind that is the issue. I have known a lot of AG folks use "IPA Grease Fitting Cleaner, Model# 7862H Northern Tool" item to get them to take grease

Just yesterday I was greasing my wet bolts and one of them would not take grease.
Some say to jack up the trailer to take the weight off of the bolt. That did not work. So while jacked up I remove the nut off the other side of zirk and tapped the bolt partially out so I could examine the bolt for wear and tried to add grease while partially out. It took grease so I tapped the bolt back in and tried to grease again. It did take grease so all is good.

My house is on a bit of a slope and near the curb it slopes to the side also. When I do my zerks, there is almost always 1 or 2 that won't take grease. I tried the jack approach and it worked, but is a pain to do - so I had a brain storm. After greasing all that would take it, I just drove the unit around the cul de sac and parked the other direction therebye shifting the weight around. It has worked each time the last 2 years.

That sounds way easier than what I did. I will try that next time it happens.

Edit to my above comments. All of my zerks take grease eventually, so I know there is not one or two that are plugged up somehow. My suggestion would not help much if you have never got grease into a particular zerk.

It has taken grease before. It can't hurt to try the easy fix first!

Wet Bolts.

I had 1 wet bolt that would not take grease. I changed the grease fitting, still nothing. I then decided to jack up the Monty, and take all weight off of the spring. I Easily remover the bolt. It was plugged up with dried grease. My unit was only 1 year old. I then took a small drill bit in my fingers and twisted it into the center hole, removing all the junk. A little air blown thru it, and it was good as new. But. The brass bushing was only 1/2 there inside the spring loop. I needed a new bushing. I called Moryde to get parts. They asked me to send a picture. So I did. They said the bushing was destroyed during assembly. It was bent and hammered into place. Then the bolt was hammered thru it. No wonder it failed ,long story short. I got a complete set of bolts. Bushings. Shackle plates. And any other parts needed from moryde. I did have to pay their cost. About $70 for the set. The damage was done by the assembly plant. I was told to call and ask for reimbursement. Didn’t waste my time calling. I knew nothing would get accomplished. So now I have almost a complete set of parts to carry with me. Just Incase.

Best of luck. Check your bushings !!

Randy.
