turbo hose blowout
Well, the boys on the Ford Truck Forum gave clear warning a few years ago...yep , I ignored it...put it off...forgot about it until today. After pulling many steep grades out of Payson, AZ. We heard what sounded like a shotgun going off in the cab with us. First thought blowout, but too loud. Turbo hose clamp gave way and had no pulling power . Limped into Show Low Ford about 50 miles later. got it fixed on parking lot still hooked to RV. They robbed me of just under an arm and a leg but we're good as new now.

We have those hoses and clamps inspected every year had the clamps changed out long ago and the hoses replaced two years ago.

That is a recurring problem with the ford 7.3s. The CAC inter cooler pipe on the bottom side of the Turbo is plastic and gets brittle over time, I replaced mine with an after market, several options to include stainless steel. Easy install, about the same as a radiator hose replacement except clamps are different. Carry the original as a spare, doubt I will ever need it.

Not heard of a turbo hose blowing off but the CAC tube for sure will blow out a chunk of plastic and leave you stranded way outside of West Overshoe. An H&S or similar replacement along with ~275 bucks will easily cure it permanently. Guess I had best look at those original turbo clamps though now at 111,000 miles

Mine blew last year while towing 14,500 only and was on flat highway and had been for a very long time. Was only running 62 mph on cruise. One never knows when they will blow! Truck only had about 70,000 miles.

These hoses are made of silicone rubber. There is some oil in the turbo system and it gets on the hosee and works its way under clams. You can’t see it. The hose looks fine until it blows off and leaves you stranded. If you are like me in the middle of nowhere. I was at the top of Bolder Hill in Montana, Google Bolder Hill Montana web cam that was exactly where I was. The factory hoses are thin wall to keep as much vibration out of the cab as possible and there lies the problem along with slick silicone rubber. To prevent the problem get a good set of aftermarket hoses and clamps then carry the OEM hoses and clamps with you. When you blow a hose off the clamp will probably disappear also. So it will do no good to carry a set of hoses without clamps.

We knew of that problem from the Ford Truck forum and had them changed out on our 08 6.4 soon as we knew it.

The 6 and the 6.4 Fords are the worst because they have more turbo pressure but all turbo engines are subject to the problem. You will probably never never have this problem. If you like gambling.....

OK - you have me worried.
Is this part number Ford BC3Z-6F073-A? Is it the hose from the CAC to under the throttle body?
Reason for asking is that on my '11 there is a flexible CAC end but a tube steel center section while the online photos seem to show all black plastic - or am I looking at the wrong part again .

Correction, when I said 7.3, I meant 6.7!! Never had turbo issue with our 7.3 or 6.0 Ford diesels.

I had my upper hose blow off while towing in Nevada and it was because I had a recall on a part that was under this tube. it's the one from the cooler to the intake. Truck wouldnt hardly move. i got under there and got the hose back on but the O ring in there came out. Truck got some boost back but no where near enough. Had to get the entire tube replaced. about $350. Sure used a lot of fuel till I could get it fixed. i do however lift the hood every time i wash the truck and clean the motor. Not many people do that. I inspect everything all the time. Hopefully nothing gets by me. Some folks never lift the hood and wonder why something brakes.

I purchased the H&M motor sports upgraded Stainless steel parts. No more worries of the cheap plastic parts breaking. Highly recommend for piece of mind

Had the same problem with my Duramax 2 weeks ago. It was amazing the amount of black smoke that can roll out of these motors.

Last year we were on eastbound I80 climbing the Sierra Nevada and all of a sudden "pow" and no power at all. Very lucky to be right at a pull-out because shoulders were very narrow. I knew immediately that the turbo hose has come off..happened to me before when I didn't tighten clamp enough. This time the special stainless steel clamp broke in half where it's bent. Put regular hose clamp on and proceeded directly to Ford dealer in Reno. New hose and 2 new clamps installed in their parking lot. Good to go.

I think the 6 and 6.4 Ford engines are more prone to hose failure than most engines. They run higher boost than other engines. A stock 6.4 will go up to over 30 pounds of boost. That is a lot of pressure on a hose as large as they are.
A word to wise carry a set with you.
