Refrigerator, For those of you who changed it:

I would like to get input from folks that have changed the stock gas/electric refrigerator to a electric one, how did you secure it in the cavity?
I have an idea or two but can learn from those that have done it.
I insulated the top area, so getting to it from the outside access panel would be tough. I can always cut out a piece of the insulation, then put it back when I am done.
I was thinking of making brackets and screwing them to the reefer and cavity wood floor, and ceiling.
My new Lowe's Whirlpool unit is on it's way.

Haven't done it Ozz, but my thoughts were brackets as well...but with the brackets secured to the fridge with 3M5200. Screws can hit something within the fridge that you wouldn't want hit. John

Being a refrigeration man, I should be ale to figure out how not to hit the refrigerant lines. The outside corners would be safe.

Ozz, I haven't needed to do this mod but I think I would use the anti tip brakets that are on all the new ranges. One on a back leg and one on a front leg should secure it. look at them on this website just as an example: http://www.geappliances.com/search/f...e/10000138.htm You could cut the back off and just attach them to the floor. Should be easy enough to fabricate something on your own. Just a thought, Jim

Thanks Jim, I was wondering of the top and bottom both should be secured. I will check out the link. The reefers really aren't that heavy.

Our Whirlpool was a perfect fit in the existing cavity. It came with brackets on the bottom outside that made it very convenient to fasten the fridge to the wooden cavity floor via wood screws. We installed this fridge in Oct 2012 and since then traveled to both coasts, Canada and Alaska and back. It has not moved at all. Hope this helps.

Ken, we ordered the one everyone bought that we read about, and about the time it was to be shipped, they called us and said they were sending another model, the newest one they have. Sue talked with them, I'll ask her.

My Whirlpool fits tight in the old opening and I had to sand down the existing wood frame/trim where the Whirlpool "bulged" a little in the middle. I have one lag bolt through the rear frame at the back. Wheels are still in place. Usually the top of the Fridge creeps/tilts out just a little after going down the road. I just push it back in.
Used wood to cover the opening at the bottom inside the RV as the residential sits up from the "floor" and re-used the old Dometic top plate at the top. On my Fridge the coils are all at the rear so I put insulation above and below the Fridge. Also re-used the little computer style cooling fan, but I've NEVER heard it run.

Thanks Chas, I appreciate the feedback. They delivered mine today, a nice Black model, more room!
I might work on it tomorrow between football games. We are replacing the vinyl flooring, good thing the guys poked two holes in it.. I had them sit it up on two milk crates so I can handle the install myself.
