Shocks replacement on Monty
Good Day to all. I am wondering if any of the members have replaced there shocks on there Monty. I have Dexter axels on our 2004, 2980RL and was wondering if Monrow makes a replacement for the OEM type to a higer quality brand like Monrow or KYG's. after replacing the schakles with the new wet bolt kit, pluss the brakes last year, I figured that new shocks will complete the underside of the Monty.
any referance to this will be helpful to me.
Thanks a bunch Don.

This is just my take on shocks on our fivers. I often wondered if they were more of an afterthought than equipment that really made a difference. I had a 05 2980RL ... the angle of the shocks was so great I didn't seem they really made much difference at all. Since the suspension normally doesn't move but a few inches up and down that equated to not much more than an inch of shock travel. Just something to digest before you shell out bucks on a supposed shock upgrade.

When I had the Dexter Wet Bolts and EZ Flex installed by the Dealer in Oct 2009 on my 2005 (Oct 04 Build Date) I asked him to check the 4 Shocks. Said they were fine.
With only 14K miles on our Montana I suppose they still should be good. Lately, almost everything has stayed well in place while traveling (thanks to decent roads?).

I replaced mine with Monroe, like you did the shackles and then the shocks.
Copied this from Shockware house
Adding Monroe RV shocks reduces the bounce and wander of your trailer for improved towing capacity. Monroe RV shocks also reduce the surge caused by trailer motion feedback to the tow vehicle, for a smoother, more comfortable ride. Recommended for use with Monroe RV shock absorbers for a softer, more controlled ride.
I think the shock work there hardest on those windy day to take the sway out of the camper.

Question,When we ordered our monty I ask why shocks were't offered as an option. His answer was that with the mor/yde lre supension you don't need them, they would work against each other. Does anyboby have different take on this? Thanks Mike

Mike I cant answer that question, my Monty is a 2004 and mor/ride suspention was not offered with my Monty at that time. the best thing I can say is call up the company that your axel is made by and ask them that, your have either Dexter or that other brand and the name fails me now.

On my old fiver, I pulled one shock, took in to the auto parts store, and they matched a couple of brands that would fit. Don/t remember which brand I ended up with.

Good idea, that was going to be my next step. it seems that even Keystone. Lippert or Dexter dont even know and they built the darn thing. .
