Leaving South Heading West

Yahoooo!!! We will be leaving dark thirty Sunday morning going west. Going to Pahrump Nevada where it is dryer. This place is just too wet for me. You can take the girl out of the desert but you cannot take the desert out of the girl.LOL Going to be traveling interstate 10 to I-17 to I-40 to kingman AZ. Hopeing to see some montana's on the road and maybe get to invite them to join the MOC. I will be without internet for a while unless we find a place with WI-FI. I will try and keep you all updated on how the Montana is doing, We learned a lot on the first trip and hope not to make the same mistakes again.LOL.

Funny... Cheryl and I were looking at a map of Nevada last week and noticed a strangely-named town, Pahrump. We kinda wondered what could be found in, and why anyone would name a town, Pahrump?! By golly, now Linda sn Walt can shed some light!! We'll be checking in regularly.

Linda and Walt, drive safe!

Isn't Pahrump a big casino area? And I've heard there are several very nice RV parks there, too. Just haven't been there yet.

prairepoodle, you are so right about taking the girl out of the desert but not the desert out of the girl! The desert just calls us "desert rats" home, I couldn't live any where else. We try to get out to LV once a year to see my son and family and friends we made while there, haven't been up to Pahrump in years - Jack use to like to play golf there. Know it has grown over time but I imagine it is a quiet place still.

Safe travels.

Last year, while driving I-40, we happened to stop for breakfast in Seligman, AZ...about 80-90 miles W of Flagstaff. Seligman is about 3-4 miles north of I-40 and is on the original Hwy 66. One of the more memorable stops we encountered that year...There is a really good breakfast restaurant, "Westside Lilo's" just down the street and on the opposite side from (the original?) Road Kill Café. Really great Hwy 66 memorabilia through out the small town.

Seligman got us so interested in the old highway's history that we we elected to take Hwy 66 instead of I-40 to Kingman. We really enjoyed that part of the trip. 66 parallels I-40 most of the way. Good road, although two lanes only for most of it. You might want to give it a try and,at least, see Seligman.

Best,

OH MY, YOU'RE IN FOR A REAL TREAT!!! IT'S BEEN A WET WINTER HERE ON THE NEVADA DESERT AND THE SPRING FLOWERS ARE GOING TO BE UNBELIEVABLE!!! ONCE DURING THIS WINTER THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN VEGAS AND PARUMP WAS CLOSED DUE TO SNOW AND ICE. WE'RE IN THE MOHAVE VALLEY (BULLHEAD CITY/LAUGHLIN). WE WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR PAHRUMP REPORTS AS WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING A WEEK THERE AFTER THE RALLY IN RENO IN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER. REMEMBER YOU'LL HAVE TO USE HWY 95, AS YOU'RE NOT ABLE TO CROSS HOOVER DAM WITH THE MONTANA.

Thanks all for the good wishes I will keep you all posted when I can get on line.

cheryl and pete- The name for this fast growing town comes from the combination of terms, pah (water) and rimpi (flowing from rock), of the Southern Paiute Indian tribes.

Steve- Yes there are a number of casinos and RV parks,There are around 34000.00 people there and is growing all the time.

PATODONN- Yes I agree with you Seligman AZ. is a little place of history. We did stay there on the way down to Mississippi.

ragdoll- Yep! That is what I am (A Desert Rat) LOL

Joyce- Thanks, I will be posting from time to time.

John- I love the dry heat better than this wet, cold, damp climate. I guess If we stayed here long enough we might get used to it. We have seen very little sun in the two months we have been here. Hey! you got any pictures of where you are? I have never seen where you are and probley never will. Just a thought.

REX & MARY- You are so right about the flowers, about 10 years ago it rained like that and we spent weeks going out to take pictures in Death Valley and other places and I have them all in a folder. Thanks for the heads up about Hoover Dam.

prairepoodle, right outside Kingman before turn off to Laughlin they have a big sign saying what they won't allow on the dam - May 2004 they were allowing RV's across the dam. We did have to stop and go through a security check inside and out of the trailer but think they were losing alot of business making rvers go around. Although sometimes I think the road is better through Laughlin but since truckers have to go around the stretch between there and turn off at I-95 is hectic. Of course with Rex & Mary living closer they probably have more updated info.

Seligman is a great place to stop in even just venturing off to eat and look at the town......patodonn is right!

Safe travels.
