Needles to Palm Springs Ca.

Ok I know my way to Needles but I need to get to Palms Springs. Do I use Route 95 to I 10 or Route 95 to Route 62. Really what I need to ask should I avoid Route 95 altogether and drop down from Flagstaff to Phoenix then west to Palm Springs.

Is route 95 mountainous or just hilly, the heat is the ?????

Coming west for Illinois to Palm Springs. Thanks

I-10 is your best bet. 95 is 2 lanes and is kind of desolate in some places. If I was going to Palm Springs from Flagstaff, I would take 17 to Phoenix and then 10 to Palm Springs. There is a neat museum WWII on the 10 at the top of a mountain. I forget the name of it or the town.
Happy trails.....................

Dennis & Debbie,
We have traveled 95 south from Needles to Palm Springs many times. As Sue mentioned is is 2 lane but it is a nice drive, little traffic, no mountains, just rolling. I would take 95 all the way to 10 and then across unless you have some extra time then you could take 62 over to Joshua Tree and then drive down through Joshua Tree National Mon. to 10.
