Well, we had a problem tonight and I think the misperception of the responding deputy resulted in the following...

Dear Sheriff,

I had a situation occur tonight that I feel needs to be brought to your attention regarding the conduct of one of your deputies.

Earlier this evening, I heard bottle rockets flying near my 5th wheel at the Kozy Kampers RV Park. I stepped outside in an attempt to determine the source of the fireworks.

When I saw a woman pass something to a man who subsequently lit a bottle rocket and send it over my 5th wheel, I approached them to tell them to stop. When I was within about 10 feet of the pair, I saw that there was another man sitting nearby.

All three people appeared to have been drinking and the man who lit the bottle rocket had a bottle of beer in his hand.

The man, identified as "George", who had lit the bottle rocket and let it fly over my 5th wheel, began shouting at me to leave them alone. Expletives from all three people were directed to me and then George ran at me and shoved me, with force, knocking me backwards and I am a large man. He then tried to hit me with his beer bottle. The beer bottle, as it was coming at me broke against a glass that I had in my hand that had ice water in it. George then accosted me with the broken beer bottle.

As I was retreating, the other man, previously sitting down, began to come at me as well.

Witnesses called the Broward County Sheriff's office dispatch as I was retreating and once at a safe distance, we waited away from the original scene for a response from your department.

After over an hour, a deputy responded. He asked me what had happened and I gave the deputy a brief synopsis, ending with the statement that I believed two simple assaults, one simple battery, and an assault with a deadly weapon had occurred.

The deputy apparently interviewed the couple who, in my opinion, had committed simple assault. When he returned to where I was waiting he told me that there were witnesses that I had accosted them. I responded by saying that I would like him to interview George, the one who had battered me and it appeared that he was reluctant to do so, saying to two other colleagues who had recently arrived that it "was just fireworks, just fireworks."

The deputy apparently interviewed George. Upon the deputy's return, he told me that if he were to arrest George, he would arrest me for mutual combat. I never touched any of the three, including George. I asked the deputy to interview eye witnesses and he refused to do so.

At this point, I asked the deputy for his business card and name. Rather than give me a card, he rattled off a telephone number, his Sergeant's name and his, ending with his badge number, 8930, which is the only thing I can remember because it was done so quickly.

As the deputy was returning to his car, he "eye ****ed" me in an attempt to intimidate me.

As a former law enforcement officer, I am disappointed with the handling of this situation and believe that the conduct of your deputy needs to be addressed so that your office is appropriately represented.

Furthermore, because of the ineptitude of this deputy, it is my opinion that the perpetrators now believe that they have been vindicated and that their feeling of being right may result in an attempt to damage me, my family and my property.

I look forward to a response from you once your office has investigated my allegations.

Sorry to hear what happened, glad you're still ok. Doesn't give you a lot of faith in the authorities. The good news is the voters apparently didn't have a lot of faith in them either.

That is one of the reasons I joined a rv resort membership A.K.A coast to coast R.P.I. thousand trails ETC....nothing but old people and nice families...... I got tired of all that B.S. staying in public campgrounds K.O.A's etc.. the private RV resorts do not put up with that crap! best 5k I ever spent...AHHHHH Always a good nights sleep
