Mattress needs HELP!

We just purchased a 2024 Montana High Country 331RL to put on a permanent lot near the Missouri River in South Dakota. We love the camper ... except for the hard-as-concrete mattress. We tried a feather bed topper that we currently use at home, but that was no help at all. We're looking for advice please. Can anyone recommend good mattress toppers? Or if we just need to replace the mattress, is it possible to get a king size replacement in through the entry door and get it turned, up the steps, and into the bedroom? Any thoughts are more than welcome! Thank you.

A 3 or 4 inch natural latex topper. Latex is a heavy dense foam that doesn’t sagg or break down it supports better than any other foam while remaining soft with no pressure points. We have been sleeping on latex for 25 years and it’s still like new. You can choose the degree of softness that is controlled by the number of through holes in it. I would recommend the softest one available.

We didn't even make the first night! We bought an RV Sleep number mattress. Its a little pricy, but its the 3rd one we have owned and have been very happy with them!

Thank you for the information. Does the latex make you warm?

We purchased a Brooklyn Bedding short king and it’s the most comfortable mattress we have ever owned.

We have a hybrid. Springs and foam and a quilted top. Shipped in a relatively small box. We put it on the bed platform, unboxed it and cut it loose..lol.
It’s a thick mattress though, 11” I think. I removed the bedside shelves so it would fit but now keystone puts the shelves up high so that they don’t interfere with the mattress change that everybody does. We bought it after sleeping in our trailer 1 night.
Mattresses are a personal choice so may not be for you, but at least you can get it in the bedroom.
Kind of funny story….when we were at the Tampa show in January, Karen would comment on some of the sob’s that the windows in the bed slideouts were too low, maybe only a few inches above the 6” oem mattresses. “can’t have that, our mattress wouldn’t fit”

+2 for Brooklyn Bedding out of Arizona. Their Signature series is the best we've ever slept on. Veteran's discount didn't hurt either. YMMV

We ordered the top mattress from Wilderness RV Mattress and are anxiously awaiting it's arrival! I'm perplexed over how the Montana 'designers' could think it was a good idea to put that 'concrete' mattress in their fifth wheels. We also have a Winnebago Class C motorhome that came with a fabulous air bed (like Sleep Number) ... so it can be done. Oh well!

I've expressed my disdain for mattress toppers many times and my opinion has not changed. Don't spend money throwing lipstick on the pig. Throw out the pig and get a new mattress that will work for you.

What type of mattress do you have in your house? If you are happy with that mattress, then get one for the camper. You won't need a box spring through, so the mattress will be a bit more firm. Or, better yet, drag the one out of your house and try it in our camper and see how it works.

Next are many, many varieties of foam mattresses. He have always used Serta mattresses (we enjoy the counting sheep), until my son ordered a Helix. That thing was so comfortable, when the original in our Montana High Country finally bit the dust completely, we replaced it with a new Helix.

By far, not the cheapest! Actually, Helix is probably one of the most expensive you'll ever get. But the question is.... Is your back worth it! The more nights you spend in your camper, the more important it becomes to invest in a good, comfortable mattress.

Helix comes all squished up in a box. You open the box, cut the vacuum package and watch that sucker expand.... in our case .... all 16 inches thick! What a great night of sleep! I don't think we'll be going back to Serta's now.

When it comes to what we sleep on, we get what we pay for! Helix is NOT cheap!

Note: you do have to be careful though that you don't get a new mattress (or even a topper) too thick if the mattress is under a night stand on each side of the bed, or a window.

One thing that happened with our Helix, it raised us up more than 12 inches. When sleeping, someone can actually stand outside the camper and look UP into the window and see us in bed. It's high. So, we've make double sure all our blinds are always closed ..... especially at night!

We had the same problem with our Monty and to solve it we bought a new King Size mattress in a box from Camping World and had no problem getting it up in the bedroom and no problem getting the old one out

Ok that was funny! Kind of like" You can't polish a turd". Great timing. We're going out this weekend with our Dormoe topper and pillows that we've been sleeping at home on for 2 months, We love it on our sleep number. I'll let you know how it works on the factory RV mattress.
