Angry Damage to front storage door

My husband pulled out our 2019 Montana High country 305 RL with the tailgate of our truck down (did not follow check list) and caused a depression/crack about the size of an orange on the baggage door.
Was wondering where I could go to get this fixed, or should I order a new door from Keystone? We are 60 miles from the nearest Montana dealer, who will not even talk to us because we did not buy it there. Next nearest dealer is 3 hours away (Portland OR)
Any suggestions? regular Body Shop/other RV dealer? We are in Kingston, WA where we just moved 10 months ago. Its not bad but needs to be fixed.

Corinne,

First, welcome to the forum!

Body shop should be able to fix your door and it may be cheaper than a new one.

If you have no luck with a body shop, you might check with Trekwood.com.
They usually have most parts but pricey and shipping is rather high.

I did something similar on our 2008 and took the hardware off and turned the door around to put the damage on the inside. It was a while ago but I think I had to take the door out of its frame, turn the door around, and reinstall it due to the hinges.

That's a great idea. I scratched one of my side storage doors on a post a few years ago and just sealed up the fiberglass with a patch, didn't even think to reverse it. I wonder if it would work the same way.

Corinne, first off sorry this happened and second, you're absolutely right on the "checklist."

Maybe take the door off and take it to an auto body repair shop. It should be a straight forward fiberglass repair and matching paint job.

Damaged door

I would cover it with alum diamond plate. It will give better protection in the long run.

We had the same thing happen with our son hitching up. We used fiberglass and resin. Sanded it smooth and painted it with almond appliance paint and clear coated. You can hardly see it because it blends in so well.

Double check?

Perhaps rather than saying he didn’t follow the checklist, it would make sense for both off you to do a walk around…

Body damage

Did the same. Generator door smashed with tailgate. Ordered one thru Trekwood. Exact match. 250.00 with shipping. That was a year ago.

Same thing happened to me 10 yrs ago on our Alpenlite 5th wheel. I hit a bump while making a turn in a grocery store parking lot…tailgate dropped and punched the door and the frame. Western RV (manufactured Alpenlite) had gone out of business a year or two before. It was a long and difficult process to get a door that was the right size from Kinro. If Trekwood has the exact replacement - count your lucky stars and go for it.
