mounting a tv outside

Our RV did not come with a TV or mounting bracket. I was wondering if anyone had tried this. I purchased a mount but a little nervous about drilling into the side of the RV

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Those without an OEM Outside TV generally put a mount in the Front Storage compartment. Some a pull down type of mount to the ceiling there.

We have an outside TV and have only used it a couple of time in over 5 years.

If it were me I’d get a table and tv stand. There ain’t no way I’m gonna drill holes in the outside of our rv. Doing stuff like that never works out well for me.

We have a small Roku Television we take outside when we want to watch television outside. I have a 50 foot section of coax cable I can hook up to the outside antenna hook-up and then stretch to the television so we can watch over-the-air television. Because it's a smart television, it's also got internet and with our Visible phone hot spot set up, we don't need any additional wire hook-ups. We mostly watch streaming television (via wifi internet) so very seldom, if ever any more hook-up the coax cable).

Now, the reasons I have never put a mount on the side of the camper for an outside television are these:

With the television in a fixed spot, attached to the camper, depending on the position of the sun, the camper, the awning, it's possible the sun will shine directly on the television and you can't see the picture at all.

If the sun is shining bright, even if the screen is shaded, the screen acts as a mirror and the surrounding area reflects off the screen so much, you can't see what's playing.

If your campsite has a slope (either left-right, or front-to-back), the television could be angled extremely high as seen from sitting in a lawn chair, or extremely low. Exactly where is the best position to put the mount? (how high, every campsite is different), no 2 are ever the same. How do you determine the correct height?

Yes, you have to drill holes to put on a mount. Will the mount be a swivel arm or flat. If swivel, then it has to be anchored down when you travel so it won't move around. If it's flat, everything listed above is a problem.

Your best solution is to keep the television mobile so you can move it around, keep the screen shaded, and shelter it from overpower reflections. At night, you can turn the television toward the trailer by sitting it on a picnic table or on another table or even just leaning against a chair. If you attach a sound bar (which ours absolutely needs a sound bar the speaker is so horrible) the sound bar is pointed toward the trailer so it won't blast outward and offend other people. Plus, whatever you are watching on the television (especially at night), is a bit more private that way too.

In MY opinion, mounting to the side of the camper is a bad idea. In the end, you'll not use it because you'll find it frustrating also for the same reasons above.

Many people put their televisions inside their front pass throughs, or if they have an outside kitchen, in that area so they are sheltered from sun light. The problem with that is..... #1 it takes up storage space in your basement and #2, you could still have the height problem at every campsite you land on.

Keeping it mobile, keeps it in the shade, keeps the surround reflections off, and keeps it private, and allows you to move it anywhere on your campsite, as far away from the camper as an extension cord will allow or as far as your coax cable or your wifi will reach .... even under that great tree .l... way over there!

Mine has a mount inside the pass thru - on the back wall. It swings out and also tilts I think. The inside BR tv is 12v and you could move it outside. We never used it, so I took the mount down and built a large 2 drawer tool storage area against the back wall of the passthru.

This is what i did. Just got a swing out mount, figured out where I wanted it. Fabricated two pieces of metal, one for mounting in the basement side and one for mounting in the lp storage bay for stability. Works perfect. I did kinda go overboard with the 50” tv:, but we a had it laying around so why not. I carry the tv under the bed sandwiched between two pieces of foam.

Good luck.
Safe travels
Steve

TV

I bought a slide out bracket. Attached in basement wall. 48 inch fits perfect. Travels well. I can stream thru Starlink or I have a wireless HDMI to mirror inside TV thru direcTV.

I just place a 50" smart TV on it's stand in the storage area and it works out great. When traveling, we just put it on the bed. Very easy setup.

almost the same rig as yours I mounted mine in the passthrough like foldback except mine drops down , the tv connection and power are also located in passthrough . the power receptacle is not on the inverter so when dry camping you would plug directly into the inverter that is also in the passthrough. The configuration works well but i don't use it much

It's Murphy house. He owns the joint. DW and me just pay for it, drag it from point a to point b and set it up for him.
