Yikes! I just had a flashback!
I saw something on TV and remembered opening a can with one of those twisty-key deals. How long ago was that...
Too much coffee late in the day, I guess.

That is a flashback. Had forgotten all about those things. I do remember the coffee cans and spam cans though.

I think we're dating ourselves in this day and age of pop top everything.

Yep, and Vienna sausages. I used to walk down to the creek when I was a little kid, stopping at our little country store on the way, I would get a small package of crackers and a can of Vienna sausages. Used the break-away key to open them. I guess that was the precursor to my Montana outings. I haven't had any of those little stinkers in 45 years...and don't intend on it ever again.

My Dad would eat a can of sardines every New Years Day for good fortune. I remember rolling the lid back with the key that came with it. I don't carry on the tradition.

What is it with Dad's, mine ate the stinky dead miniatures as well, he didn't wait for the end of the year, he had them all the time. We had Black-eyed Peas and cornbread New Years Eve

My dad ate his specialty a sardine and onion sandwich on a regular basis. Needless to say that one never did catch on with the next generation. I can remember that even being on the menu at a local restaurant!!! Thanks for those memories.

I do remember all those things but I am a old guy.... anndd.. I like Spam always did and sardines. Nothing like sardines between a couple of crackers. Chopped up spam, scrambled eggs, onions, and anything else you can find for a omelette..great camping food.

To this day, we have Spam.
Sue just made Cabbage soup with Spam. Get a bag of coleslaw, boil it for ?? 45 minutes or so, then add a can of chopped Spam cubes and simmer for an hr. Yummer!

I too remember the break off keys for spam and coffee and everything else but when I went in the Army in 63 was introduced to a handy gadget to open cans that kept for years. Really handy opening C rations. The ole P38 can opener.
