3575RL

I have not seen very many posters here with a 3575RL (which is what I have..2003) other than Bob and Sherri although there seems to be about 32 gadzillion 3400RL owners. I'm curious if a 5.5K generator is generally a large enough generator for the 3575 with 2 ACs. Also, would it generally be considered wiser to get a LP generator or diesel (I have a F350 7.3L TV). I don't want a third fuel source so I have tentatively ruled out any gas generators. I'm sort of new to this so I may not have phrased the questions properly or given enough info. so feel free to prod me alittle....very little for I do squirm a bit.

Hey Mike - welcome to the forum. While I am not that familiar with your model, I traded a Class A in on mine that had two A/C's and I had a Onan 5.5 and it handled both A/C's with no problem, even ran micro wave at same time. Diesel or propane - wow I don't know. The diesel might cost more but fuel might be easier to get with diesel - I don't know that is a very good question. Let's have some others kick in here with experience with two different types of fuels.

Mike, we have a 3400RL and also the 5.5 Onan generator. It does a fantastic job. Is all we do is push a button in the closet and it starts. We have the propane as it is just easier to run it off the tanks rather then carry extra diesel. It runs everything including our 2 A/C's going full speed. Love it. Paul said he wanted it included in our sale. So it was installed at the factory when they were building our trailer. They did a fantastic job installing it and it fits perfect in the front of the trailer. I can send you a picture if you would like. Other then that we think we made an excellent choice. Happy RVing. I would be interested in a picture. How do you send it to me? My e-mail address is listed under my profile. I don't know if I am supposed to post that here. By-the-way, how has you propane consumption been on the generator? Did it simply tie into your regular system or did they also make an additional bottle mounting next to the generator?

For those not familiar with the 3575RL, it was discontinued in '05. I thoght the model was great, however, it looks like enough people did not agree with me. One of the features I liked best was the 5' desk that it had.

They tied the lines right into the 2 bottles of propane that we carry already. I really don't see any difference. But then we don't do a lot of boondocking. We use it a lot when we are on the road though. It is incredible how well it works and how many things it can run. I will send you a picture to your email address so that I won't clog up this system...LOL.

We saw several front compartments being readied for a generator on the factory tour yesterday. Looks like they do a nice job.

McMalody, we have the 3380 and love the floor plan but it was also discontinued, along with the 3670, which we really like. I don't know why they don't consult us about these decisions!

Hello Mike!
We absolutely love our 3575RL. The generator on ours is a factory installed 5500 Onan that runs on propane. Can't really say that we have used the generator a lot though (yet). We did use it when hurricane Isabelle hit our town and we had no power in the stick house. Did a fine job. We were able to provide ice and coffee for our neighbors and comfort for ourselves! We start it up every now and then just for good measure. We don't yet have a 2nd a/c although our Montana is wired for it. That's still on the "wish list"!! The Onan is very quiet when running. Someone here will surely be able to help you with your questions. Welcome to the forum!

Hello Mike,
We too are 3575RL owners and really love it! We recently moved into it as full timers.(3mo. ago). Mel is currently out to sea, so doesn't have access to the forum right now, but he is a Chief Engineer on a very large Tug and knows quite a bit about generators and such, so If you don't get your questions answered, give him a shout when he gets back around the 19th of July. Although with all the experience here on the forum, your very likely to know before he gets back. It's nice to hear about a fellow 3575r! Take Care

That's 6 (counting mine) 3546RLs so far, cool. On the generator question, Kathi's rig (thanks for the pictures) indicated the door on the generator compartment was not vented. Why is it that LP generators do not need vented doors? Do they cool differently? Is the fule burned differently...no combustion chamber..hmmmmmm. sorry, I don't know very much about this stuff, although, sometimes I will share with others from my ignorance...what for those postins and just say to yourself, "well, self, looks like Mike's at it again.":>)

Can't imagine that having a 3575 makes any difference regarding a generator installation. Have seen lots of propane generators installed in 5Ws. Deisel is nice, too, but generally heavier. You'd need a fuel tank installed in the 5W to be practical--like repairs to the truck or just going to town, etc. Propane essentially works the same as gasoline except for the carberation and a little plumbing. Would think that the compartment should be vented. Watch were the exhaust goes!

I can't imagine any generator compartment not being vented. Our 2004 3380 was equipped for a generator, though we never got one. So I covered up the vent on the front door of the compartment in order to use the compartment for storage, without it getting wet, dusty, or muddy.

It could be that they've opted to use the floor of the compartment to get air to the generator in these later models. You know how things change. As long as it's getting air, the exhaust is still going out the tailpipe of the generator, through the exhaust piping that surely must come from underneath the compartment.

Gyro, you may have hit it on the head. I called an Onan dealer down the road and asked him about it not being vented. He said the main reason for the venting was to bring cool air in from one location and vent hot air out another (in via top, out via botton). With the new generator they do it for one end to the other, therefore, no need for the vent in the door. Now it is in via bottom left, and out via bottom right. Does this sound right?

Mike,

That's great! That open mesh vent was a great way to get the generator and its compartment all mucked up while traveling.

Personally, I think the front panel looks better without the vent, too.

Thanks for the info!

Mike, We also have the factory installed Onan 5500 propane generator. The vents are at the bottom. It is very quiet and can run everything including the fireplace and acs. Although. we rarely run both at the same time. A little humor there. Our salesman said to leave the front compartment door open when we run it in hot weather.

I have to acs on my 3575 and your picture showed only one. You posting said "fireplace and acs". Do you have one or two acs...that has been a concern of mine. I have always thought you had to have at least a 6k generator for 50amp coaches.

Is yours the LP generator? If so, how has your LP consumption bee?
