Outdoor Speakers

Been thinking about this for a while...
Some of the folks we camp with that own SOBs (bumper pulls for the most part) have outdoor speakers. It is always nice to sit outside with them and have a little music while visiting (not loud enough to bother or even be heard by anyone in other campsites). I looked at mine and it seems as though I could easily install some on the outside of the dining room/couch slide. There are speakers inside in each corner of that slide that I could splice into the wiring of and to wire the new outdoor speakers. The only difficult thing I can't figure out just yet is how I could have just the outside speakers on and not the inside ones if we were listening to the radio or a CD or vice versa. Any thoughts? -Glenn

Oh...by the way- I am well aware of the sensitivities about extra noise in campgrounds and disturbing others (I don't care for that either). If I did this they would never be turned up enough to even be heard by anyone not actually in my particular site.

I cross my fingers everytime somebody pulls in next to us with outside speakers.

The speakers were placed on my living room slide. That's just brilliant. The slide is nowhere nesr the awning which is where most people comgregat. I only ever used mine to hear the beeps to align the sat dish.

I have a TV hooked in under the basement,if we want music I open the basement door,turn on the TV and tune my Directv to a music station ( which there are plenty ) and WaLa!

We've a boom box that I can take outside & either plug in or use it's batteries. Can place it anywhere and it's easy to stick back inside.

To answer the original question, there are switches available which would allow you to select one set of speakers or the other or both. All you would have to do is instead of hooking directly into the interior speakers, change the connection to the inside speakers to the input of the switch and the speakers to the output. For some ideas, search for "multiple speaker switch" at amazon or similar.

It can face any direction, unlike built-ins. It can follow us where we sit, unlike built-ins. It requires no installation, unlike built-ins. It can be moved to the bedroom, unlike-built-ins. In other words, compared to built-in speakers, it has a bunch of advantages, and no disadvantages that I can see.

I'm am not sure why you would need outside speakers IMO I thought it is a unneeded feature, when I play my tunes inside the rig we can easily here it when we are outside and it sounds good with the Samsung surround sound I just press the DVD button and then the Dolby button and adjust different sound settings to the music I am playing We Love it!! Montana did not cheap out on stereo/surround like other SOB's my friends have,Sometimes I have to tell my wife to turn it down when I am outside and she is inside Cooking and dancing and sipping the Vino

Our outside speakers are also on the l/r slide which makes it more suitable for entertaining the neighbours rather then us sitting 10 feet away under the awning. Sometimes the logic of the design team is quite illogical. We usually keep the volume turned down quite low knowing that the sound carries very easily to adjoining sites. Given that the speakers on this new unit aren't located where we will be sitting we will probably use our IPods and headphones or just listen to the sounds of natures great outdoors.

I teach line dancing so I absolutely love music, but my kind of music. Not everyone likes the same music and I don't especially enjoy hearing other loud thumping music. It's right up there with constantly barking dogs or bright outside lights aimed toward my rv. To each his own but my ipad with or without earphones or small CD player works just fine for me and not loud enough to bother anyone.

We have a small Bose set that plays from our IPOD. Does a nice job anywhere you like.

Two of the couple we camp with have outside speakers and they are forever leaving them on all night and then complaining about their noisy neighbors. They also leave their awning and scare light on most of the time. LOL

We carry a small boom box when we boondock but I'd rather be jamming with other musicians than listening to most anything else.

I must admit, we love our tunes. We previously had a Forest River Windjammer pull trailer. It had Sirius with outside speakers. We loved it but must admit we forgot and left music on all night a couple of tmes..... Now with our 3700 RL we use an IPod with portable speakers or our Sirius/XM with portable speaker. The quality is just as good and I feel we need less volume. Plus we are less likely to leave the music on all night...

If you ever make it to the Atlanta area, look us up. My husband will take you fishing, and your wife can join me while I cook, dance and enjoy some vino.

We have outside speakers on our present rig. We always listened to music outside on a small boombox with our previous SOB, so we thought we'd use these new speakers a lot, but for some reason we haven't.

My Mountaineer came with two outside speakers under the awning and over the patio area. Can be turned on or off by the entertainment center. I'm surprised the more expensive Montana didn't come with exterior speakers.

I'm surprised too. I've added two speakers in the basement so now I just have to open the basement door to enjoy.
