Palo Duro State Park and Caprock Canyon SP

Anyone been to Palo Duro State Park and/or Caprock Canyon State Park, Texas,in their Montys? We are planning our west Texas trip and are wondering how the roads into these state parks are and if we'll have any trouble with pulling into the sites with our 38 ft Monty. Anything we should be aware of???? We're coming from the Temple/Killeen, TX area.

Thanks for any help.

If you are refering to Palo Duro Canyon state park, roads are good, however ther is a very steep hill going down into the park should you elect to stay down in the park. It is doable--slow and easy. Campsites are adequate. As I recall, Cap Rock was good roads dont recall much about camp sites. Enjoy.

Yes, I guess I meant Palo Duro Canyon State Park, just south of Amarillo. Are the roads narrow and winding? Thanks for your help.

They are like farm to market roads, not too windy. You should have no trouble in Palo Duro, I just don't recall for sure in Caprock, but it is flatter country out there. I took a 40 ft 5th wheel into Palo Duro.

You need to check to see if you will need reservations at Palo Duro Canyon and the roads are good all the way into the canyon--just a very steep incline after you get into the park but RV's are pulled in and out of there daily---the roads at Caprock Canyon are easy in and out-- the sites are all back in and you will have plenty of room to back in--no sewer at either park--you should also check on reservations at Caprock Canyon--

We've been to Palo Duro Canyon a couple of times but not with our Montana. That steep hill down into the canyon to get to the campgrounds is 1 mile long and is 10 percent. There is a sign saying don't go down if you can't get back up. You should have no real problem. We towed up a four mile 14% grade with ours so I'd have no concern with the ten percenter for 1 mile. If I recall, there are no hookups in the Palo Duro Canyon CG's. I may be wrong about that.
