Glass Film on Cabinet Doors - Montana Owners Club

We've had our 3400RL only since April. Already the protective film on the back of the glass of my cabinets are starting to bubble up. There is little stickers stating Not to remove the film as we assume it is a saftey feature. Is anyone else having this problem??? Our guess of the cause is the heat build up in the RV when not in use. How do we fix and Prevent from happening again?? Thinking of calling dealer as it is still under warranty. It's not happening on all the glass doors.

Terry and Sharon, we've had our 2007 3400RL since last August so maybe something is different. Ours does not have any film on the backside. I wonder if that's a protection for the glass during storage and shipping and is supposed to be removed after installation? Maybe the sticker is so that it's not removed prior to installation? I might be way off base but I'm not aware of any film on the backside of the glass.

Ditto Steve, our 3400 does not have any protective film on any of the glass fronted cabinets. It is a 2007 but end of 2006 build purchased in February. I assume the dealer removed it if it was in fact there.

We had a protective film on the back of the glass panels in the cabinets of our Big Sky that started bubbling shortly after we got it in April. We reported it to the dealer--the dealer called Keystone for advice on what to do since the film was considered to be safety backing for the glass panels. Keystone told the dealer to remove the protective film, which the dealer did. Hope that it really wasn't a significant safety item.

Thank you for all your replys. David and Jo-Anna, glad to hear you also had the protective film. I believe it is there for a reason, hence the stickers "Do not remove film" I will do some shopping and see if I can find some clear contact paper and just put it on the ones that are bubbling. There are quiet a few that are still fine. I'm afraid if the panel was to break when traveling it will shatter. Since Keystone told your dealer to remove them, then I'm not even going to inform my dealer. Probably will get the same answer.

Has anyone out there had any of them break or crack ??? Or should I not worry about this??

May or may not be important but while travelling (before beginning ritual of fastening doors shut) we had several dishes (heavy plastic cereal bowls) that decided to go airborn. Knocked both doors above table open, (don't know how long we travelled this way) but when we arrived glass was still intact. The heavy bowls had to strike the glass on their cabinet departure and the doors had to flap back and forth but the glass held up. Call it luck or whatever, but in my opinion I think the glass is probably stronger than most people realize. Still not a bad idea on the reinforcement with contact paper though.

As I mentioned in a previous topic, we have a Big Sky and our dealer did not like the way the backing on the doors was bubbling up and ordered all new glass with the protective coating on the glass and took the doors down, took the old glass out and put in the new glass with the protective coating on the doors. One thing you can do is take a needle and puncture the bubble and get it to lay down.

We've put somewhere around 70k miles on our three Montanas and not had a single cabinet glass break. It could happen I suppose if something shifted hard enough in the cabinet but that would have to be a heavy item and one heck of a bump.

Thanks for the needle suggestion Karen. Definately going to try that first before I shop for the clear contact paper. Don't really want to go to the extreme of replacing the glass panels if there is a quicker fix that still looks acceptable. It sounds like thousands of miles of travel by everyone and not heard of anyone having a bad break. We have just had bad luck in the past with previous RV's with other stuff going wrong,(Cougar 5er's) so I'm just a little paranoid I guess. I should have more faith in my Montana. Right?
