FRONT SLIDE CYLINDER

About three weeks ago the SNAP RING that holds the PISTON into our bedroom slide cylinder came out,you guested it oil everywhere. At first I wasn't sure what had happened because like all the other cylinders it is covered,so I hunted every where for the oil they state to use and refill the cylinder. There's no oil like they state to use in the book, the proper oil is AW-32. AW stands for ALL WEATHER and you find it at LOWES,if you can't get it use any good Automatic Transmission Fluid according to LIPERT, the builder of this Hyd.System.
Once I refilled the Hyd.Resivor and tried again we realized where the leak was,so I did exactly what the manual stated.I closed off the front slide valve and again refilled the hyd.system. WELL guess what you still can't operate the slides because they are ALL hooked in a series and you still put oil to the damaged cylinder which pours it out(on the bed room floor in this case).
I used a ratched strap to pull the bedroom slide in and I had to get four other individuals to help PUSH the other two slides in.After discussing the disaster with numerious people Keystone had me to bring our coach to Goshen IN where they are made and they put in a first rate repair facility. They paid all expenses to and from and the motel bill while there for repairs.
This Company does care about us and the quality of their and our coaches.I only have Great things to say about the KEYSTONE Co. and the LIPERT Co. While in GOSHEN we toured the Montana Assy. plant and found it to be of GREAT benifit. The tours are on Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm.
I know we all get upset when things go wrong but the KEYSTONE Custormer Service Reps.will help, just give them a chance !
If you are ever in need of ANY type of repais and are in the Goshen area you should contact FOX RV REPAIR Service.LARRY FOX is the owner and he is a very fine gentleman and extremely knowledgeable in all types of RV repair. As soon as the doors closed on our coach he had his people working on it.They did All the repairs that were needed to include the very minor items and were very expidious in doing them.I don't beleive you will ever find a better repair facility! There no.is 1-877-FIXMYRV. They do everything from complete rebuild to desining an rv and building it.They fabricate slides and hyd.lifts for moterhomes.

Eagleone, is the snap ring easily recognizable? I do not have access to my 2955 at this time. Do you think it was one of those once in a lifetime incidents? Thank you!

Great info EAGLE1. I often wondered what i would do if my main cylinder failed. When I had the underneath off doing inspections I noticed the Mfgr sticker on the tube was removed. Would really like to know what mfgr Lippert used in 2000.

If nothing else I might give Fox a call. I shall subscribe to this topic.

I also would vouch for Fox RV. They did the fibreglass warranty work on our first Montana. They kept our Montana hooked up to electric so I could stay overnight in it. The last night it was raining and I got there an hour or so after closing. Larry Fox was still there, waiting for me. My Montana was not outside! He waited to give me a key to their facility because he didn't want the still-curing repair to be out in the rain overnight so they kept it inside and gave me a key to get in and out of their facility. Really a first class outfit.

Eagleone and others, how do you access that cylinder in the bedroom slide. From inside, under the bed?

Lightningjack11, you mention when you had the 'underneath off'. Is that the exterior cover under the bedroom slide?

Thanks.

Steve,

Woops! I see now Eagleone was talking about the bedroom slide. Sorry.

I was talking about the main cylinder for the livingroom. I pulled off the undercovers to look at it a year or so ago.

Guess I better read a little closer.

Steve, If You take the screws out from the plywood floor of the underbed storage area, You will see the cylinder and the slides.

Thanks, John. We have that area packed with 'off season' clothes so I'll probably not check it out until I have to. Nice to know where to look if the time comes. Thanks.
