Coat Rack Mounting

I have made two coat racks out of hickory to match interior. My question is how to locate studs between entrance door and window in hall stair area, exterior wall. Thanks Ken

Studfinder from Home Depot might work.

The old tried and true method, gently tap the inside with a hammer to locate framing. The sound changes as you you get closer to the stud.
Another way, on these cool mornings the exterior wall studs are visable and can be measured from the door or window. With 40+ years of commercial interior work I never felt the need for a stud finder. Your milage may differ.
