Duramax/Allsion !!!!!!!

Well I Love the GM Trucks and have owned 5 Duramax/Allisons and have only been back to a dealership twice with all 5. However the new 2008 Chevy thru a CEL about a month ago. Call Onstar and was told it was a problem with the Glow plug not communicating with the ECM. Went to dealership on Monday. The answer from GM was U0106 Loss of Communication with the Glow plug control module. And at this time there is no repair for intermittent or false DCT U0106. Cleared the code and then turned the CEL light off. Engineering is in the process of updating the GPCM/ECM calibration. Owner will be called when a fix is done.

Man was I upset had to take a 2008 back to the dealership. Not really. I have really no problems with GM, they have done great. And what can you say about the Duramax/Allison, awesome power and Torq. As said above, hook her up to the Gooseneck and loader her up with those large round bales of hay or hook her to the 5er and let her stroll down the big road. Good Luck... GBY....

Growing pains with a new batch of vehicle computer firmware is common. Still, fewer firmware updates as contrasted to Ford's new PSD indicates a well written piece of code.

Oops, time to don the old Nomex flightsuit again

Dave last fall thur early winter 14 to 15 mpg in town. Jan to present 13 avg in town, on road or any sustained 60mph 15 increasing to 16 or more though I have not seen 19 yet. Mileage will come only from Dodge at this time though I'm less than 10k so it may change. I've heard some Dodge owners not getting MPG either and talking of trading again, so .... It remains to be seen if any of the 3 will give mileage again with this new pollution crap.

Leaving Fri/Sat for points WEST. Yellowstone to be one spot. 2 weeks of vacation, or is that FEED the economy and pay for it over the next .... months.
enjoy
Chuck

No problems with our Duramax/Allison! City, no tow, 12-14. Open road, no tow, 18-20 but hav hit as high as 24. Open road, towing, 12-14 same as city. Only have had one problem and that was a resistor and fuse on the trailer braking system. Don't know why it blew but had no problems and was replaced under warranty. Have 18,000 plus on it now and expecting even better when I hit the 25K mark!

Chuck- If you're coming through Omaha on your way to Yellowstone drop us a line or a jingle and we'll have a toddie or something! PM or email me for the phone #.

Dave as you know we have a Chevy 3500 DRW,4x4, LTZ. Towing heavy we get between 10 to 11.5 and on the road 14 to 17.5 at 65 mph. However on one run with the 5th wheel we go as high as 12, still haven't figured that out? The mileage has changed down some. The new 2500HD's I don't know except what I read. Sometimes I think its a little high, but I don't know for sure. I think the future Trucks will get less MPG, everytime Congress gets involved mileage goes down. If they would get rid of the EPA concerning Trucks we would do a lot better. I really believe that Diesel will go to at least $7.00 to $8.00 a gallon before congress gets their head out of the sand. We will reduce our trips and probably make one summer trip and three months in the winter. And use the 3500 as little as possible. The trend now is to buy small cars, so highway deaths will probably go up. And sales of Trucks will go down, or at least they will aroung here. I will not get rid of my 3500 as long as we can use it. And I plan to vote against anyone who opposes drilling for more oil and more refineries. GBY...

I'd call it "Glowing Pains."

They are all good until the break down, huh?

Lindy -
We have the same truck except SRW. We have about 2,000 miles on it and just towed from Central Illinois to Wisconsin and got 10.5 mpg. Have seen 16 - 17 mpg without the Monty. Love the new truck. Lots more power than our 2004 had. I will be looking forward to our fall trip through Glacier National after Labor Day. The only negative is the bed light can only be on with the interior lights. It makes it virtually impossible to use the cargo light at night while looking through the mirror.

Ron-- Check out your manual! I think you can kill the interior lights somehow and still have the bed light on. It has something to do with the switches or dials for the interior lighting but can't remember what it is. I'll play around with my 2007 and see if I can figure it out and report back here if I figure it out!

This was in response to a question on the RV.net Forum of which truck to buy for a heavy trailer:

"Buy yourself the biggest, Mac Daddiest, 1 ton dually, Chevy with the ground poundin, smoke belchin, sweet sound of music, pull a courthouse off it's foundation, only happy when she's pullin hard, knock down, drag out, earth shakin, stump pullin, hill levelin, head buttin, chest beatin, mule whippin, dog kickin, gut bustin, slap yer pappy, kiss yo momma, oil burnin, 365 horse power, 650 lbs of torque, Duramax diesel with the 6 speed Allison tranny. Boooyahhhhhh!!!!!! When you absolutely, positively, got to have the Mac Daddiest oil burner with the most HP & Torque on the market! Accept no substitute! She'll still be tuggin for ya 10 years from now and will tow anything ya can hang on behind 'er."
