I-10 or I-20

Which road is better between San Antonio and Mobile? I know I-10 is shorter, but heard it is like a washboard in La. and Miss.. Is I-20 the same?

Thanks,

bob

I-10 is OK through AL and MS and up to the I-12 by-pass around New Orleans in LA. From the end of I-12 to TX was pretty rough a couple of years ago, but I have heard that some repairs have been made recently. I am going to take I-10 from Gulf Shores, AL. If it gets too bad, I'll look at an alternate route.

I have heard that I-20 has some rough spots around Shreveport, but I don't know about the rest of it.

We've traveled I-20 several times this fall and they have made great improvements on it. There are still some rough spots, more going east than west, if my memory is working today. We recommend the bypass around the northern edge of Shreveport as it seems less bumpy.

Just a quick note: the rough area on I-20 is East of the bypass around Shreveport so that can't be bypassed, but it is of short duration. It's a toss up for me every time whether to go around the bypass or straight through Shreveport. Usually determined by time of day/day of week as to traffic possibilities.

The I-20 route is really far out of the way for a San Antonio to Mobile trip. There are some US highways (190 for example) which might help, but I think I'd slow down at the rough spots and choose I-10 over out of the way I-20. As OntMont has said, the area from Baton Rouge East is fine.
