Rear Hitch

I searched this topic but did't find the information I was looking for. Has anyone installed a rear hitch on their Monty? If so was it hard to do and much did it cost you? I have a small scooter that we take with us camping (bad back). Every rack I've seen calls for a hitch receiver. I don't like carring it in the 5er. It only weights about 120 lbs.. Just wondering Happy Camping Jack

Try the search word... "motorcycle".... That should get you a few pages of posts that might help.

I noticed in your first post that you said you had traded up to a Montana. What I don't know is whether you traded up "new" or "previously enjoyed". If new, the hitch may adversely affect your warranty. If beyond three years, it is a moot point. If beyond three years, there may be a frame issue due to Keystone using a lighter frame beam in earlier models. If you have the larger frame beams, then your concern will be the loading physics related with adding 120 lbs plus the weight of the hitch behind the axles. It is not just a function of added weight, but the cantilevered force related the distance from the rear axle. Additionally,you want to make sure your pin weight is not too light.

By-the-way, I am not an expert in this field. So seek further counsel well beyond me. Just my thoughts. Sure hope you get this issue resolved.

Wagonmaster;

I installed a hitch on my Monty and tow a boat behind it. I did it myself and it was a fair bit of work. As stated earlier, installing a hitch may void the warranty on your Monty's frame (if you are still under warranty). It's a calculated risk I decided to take because I like to fish and the wife doesn't like to drive.

Keep searching, use variations...I found two pages under "bike hitches" Try "hitches" or ""installing hitches"

I had one put on in Dec of '03. We haul two bicycles. The original installer did not do a good job. Had to have it done over in June of '04. That wielder said "Who built this piece of c---" as he looked at the previous installation (which had "failed" on I-10 in Louisiana) Present setup looks good. Added a hundred or so lbs to the rig weight.

One of the Forum members posted a great set of photos about a year ago. Probably can still be found via the search function.

Best,

This topic has been discussed before. I had a hitch put on my 2000 Montana by the dealer when I bought it. At that time there was no discussion of warranty issues. However, in talking to Keystone Customer Service personnel face-to-face, I was told in no uncertain terms that adding a hitch to your Montana is a no-no.
