External fuel tank for Honda eu1000/eu2000 generator
Get an outboard boat motor fuel tank. These will have a vented cap and provision for a fuel line. The example shown was $25 from West Marine, 3- or 6-gallon.. You'll need to screw a hose barb into the tank's threaded fuel line receptacle.
Remove the vent from the Honda's gas cap, and drill the center just big enough for a male and female hose barb to screw together through the cap. You need an airtight seal. I order spare caps from the Honda dealer to "butcher" when I make these, and got the brass hose barbs at Home Depot.
Get some 3/8 rubber fuel hose (and appropriate small hose clamps) from an auto parts store, and a generic inline fuel filter. Run the hose from the tank through the fuel filter and then to the gas cap.
Fill the generator with gas and screw on the cap. You'll have to twist the cap backwards before screwing it to the generator so the hose doesn't end up twisted when it's on.
Then just put fuel into the aux. tank. The vacuum created in the Honda's gas tank as it uses it's fuel will draw more fuel from the outboard tank. If you're running twin Hondas, you can put in a "tee" fitting and hook up two fuel hoses.
This setup will give you all the uninterrupted running time you want, and will eliminate spilling gas all over your hot generator during fill-ups. Remember to open the outboard tank's gas cap vent. If you let the outboard tank run all the way out the generator will suck air into it's internal tank. Just top it back off with gas if this happens.

Assembled gas tank, hose, filter, and cap. Auxiliary gas tank hooked up to Honda EU2000.

Pictures wouldn't work with this article, but you get the idea.
I'll try and find the link.

Ozz, my man, how much weight do you think is added to the hitch weight already there? I would be cautious especially if my w/d was a front closet item. I definately would have a reason for the new 3500!

I don't think I would do it, maybe that 5er was a heavier unit, I think it had 3 axles.
