KOA in Van Horn, in the great state of TEXAS!

Holy smoke!
We traveled from Wichita Falls Texas, after a day's stay to ride out the 60 MPH winds, to this little town; Van Horn Texas.
It is cool....Grey mountains all around, high desert, nice warm dry weather.
The little KOA kitchen even had great food, we had the Chicken Fried Steak, mashed taters, corn, Coronas......
When we started on our journey, we stopped at a rest stop on the Kansas Turnpike. A super nice couple from Minnesota pulled in next to us and we talked for a few minutes, they were in a Maroon Chevy Truck pulling a new Travel Trailer. We pulled off, feeling good that we made 'First Contact' with some fellow adventurers, they were headed to Surprise Arizona. Sue and I often spoke of them as we traveled, wondering if they made it through the high winds OK, wondering where they are at that moment.
Wellll, we just had dinner with them at the KOA 'Kafe', we were so surprised to see them, and them us. They spent Two days just South of Fort Worth, waiting out the storm.
When we pulled in we saw 3 other RV'ers we passed on the road, then they passed us at rest stops, you got the idea. We talked and laughed with them, all of us fellow adventurers. It is so neat to have a common bond, we meet so many great people.
We had a huge fire close to here at the RV park, about 1/4 mile away, we were concerned, but the natives said they were just burning the dump, a semi monthly occurrence. Just glad the wind was blowing Easterly away from us!
Well, we are settling down and picking Tv shows to watch, we will sit in our reclining love seats, have an ice cream bar and relax-not exactly roughing it.....
Tomorrow, it's on to Tucson for some great Gumbo at Beaudry RV Resort.
See ya!
Jim and Sue.

Good to hear you guys had a safe trip, and have met new friends. That was a heck of a wind storm that did a lot of damage over a very wide area, glad you stayed in Witchita Falls until it was done.
Good luck on the rest of your adventure.

I guess I should say I am jealous that you are playing leap frog with other RVers and I am working. Well I am, but can't wait to do what you are doing......have a great time and when you drink the next Corona make sure you have a little lime and salt and think of me. Coronas and Dos Equis are my favorite type of beer. I will be trying a few of those when we cruise in January.

Think we should consider the Van Horn KOA for a MOC gathereing? Certainly would create "togetherness". Not a whole lot of other things to do!!

LOL

That is a cool little town, I really like it. maybe the isolation factor makes it cozy, I don't know. The KOA Kozy Kafe is neat, we had some great food and everyone was super nice. Wish we could have met up with you guys and gals.
Maybe down the road..............

Jim and Sue, I'm sorry we couldn't get together while you were home. The situation I was dealing with at the time seems to be fixed. For now, at least. Have a safe and fun journey.
