Strange Sound
DW ask how will I describe the sound here? In our 2980RL we are suddenly getting a BRRRR sound from the area of the hot water heater and furnace. At first it was about every 10 seconds for the first 5 minutes or so. Now it occurrs about every two minutes and has been occurring for the last 12 hours.
Brrrr, 2 min later Brrr, 2 min later, Brrr. You get the picture.
Furnace and hot water heater both working fine as is the carbon monoxide moniter. I turn off the furnace and hot water heater (no gas or electricity) and Brrr still occurs. I have also shut off the water and still Brrr.
Any thoughts?

If it were a Humm sound I would suspect the propane regulator. Switch tanks and see if it stops...

Maybe the water pump switch is on with a slight leak somewhere in the system, or almost empty fresh water tank? You said you turned the water off, but was that the city water supply and maybe not the electric water pump?

When you shut the water off did that include your water pump?

Switched tanks Rich and still the Brrr sound.
We are on city water and that is what we turned off. The water pump is off.
As a test I turned on the water pump and ran some water. The pump worked fine. After leaving it on for awhile it did not run to indicate a leak. The Brrr occurred while the water pump was on.

Sometimes when the wind is blowing I find the little flap that covers the exhaust vent from the vent over the stove sounds like you describe. Just a thought.

Like Rich I am now really stumped. Ole Dude the vent flap isn't the problem as no wind and it it latched closed.
I think the sound is coming from the hot water heater. I stuck my head under the counter withing about a ft of the heater and heard the sound. Other things I have tried include shutting off the electricity and turning on the gas. Fired right up and again heard the annoying Brrrr. I also opened the relief valve for a second and again Brrrr!!!
Next week on our way home we will be stopping outside of Des Moines, IA at a park that has an RV repair shop. If we haven't got it figured out by then I'll have them take a look at it.
In the meantime, thanks for all your suggestions and help. We are off to the golf course. Probably will do terrible as I know this annoying Brrr will interfere with my concentration.

I get the BRRRR like you are talking about when my propane tank starts getting low. I then know it is time to fill up that tank.

Could it be the pressure valve on the water heater? Ours makes a sound like that when hot water faucets are opened- No sound is heard when cold water is drawn- Good luck solving the problem- Don

Does it go "BBRRrrrrrr" when the water is cold and "Burnnnnnn" when the water is hot?

Any chance you have a hose hooked up to the tank wash? Had a buzz yesterday in the trailer while flushing/washing the black tank. Thought I'd had the hose valve shut and started hearing the noise. Tracked it down to the water hose valve leaking causing the buzz from under the bathroom sink.

Well, the Brrr has been solved and I must do many mea cupas. In todays PC world I am 'technologically disadvantaged' while in my younger days I would simply be a 'dumb Pollock'. It wasn't the hot water heater.

Darn another example hit the reply button too soon. The problem was, are you ready for this, the cell phone which was sitting face down on the counter over the area of the water heater. I had put it on vibrate and forgot about it. Now Saturday night we got a call which of course we didn't realize at the time, but heard the strange Brrrr. Then when a voice mail was left it would Brrr about every two minutes to alert us to the voice mail.
We discovered it last night when I picked up phone to see if anyone had called and checked the voice mail. The Brrr then stopped because I had listened to the voice mail and no longer got the alert Brrrr. I then checked and found the cell phone was still on vibrate.
It is now back on loud ring and we no longer put up with the annoying Brrrr.
Thanks for all your input and efforts. It is a strange world.
Back to exploring the Moab area today.

If you believe the Brrr is from the water heater, have you operated the relief valve? Stand back and open the valve and let some water out. This may help, I had a "sound" not as frequent as yours, but after operating the valve, my sound was gone.

Red/green had a solution to losing your keys. Tape (duct tape of course) your cell phone to your keys and when you cannot find them just dial you phone like this...and as he did you could see the cell phone on vibrate sitting on the back of the toilet moving towards pot. Maybe not a good idea!

OK bw2,
Now you must write on the chalkboard, "I will pay more attention in class.", one hundred times. You can start right after detention is over.
hint: (It was their cell phone) Oops!
