Heater on 2004 Montana BigSky question????
Hello all this is my first post here for my brother who has a 2004 Montana BigSky 36ft. We were camping this weekend and he was telling me that his heater would only work with the his onan 5K generator running. He said thats the way they made this model. I thought for awhile and could not believe that the heater would only be able to be operated with the generator running. So I am asking is that how these units are wired?
Thankyou, for your time and when my brother gets back I will tell him about this unique site I found for his rig....
I will check back and see if anyone can shine some light on this subject.

Bill if you are talking about the furnace it will run with no power hooked up to the rv as long as you have battery power and propane. if you are talking about the electric fireplace it has to have 120vs to heat. if you are hooked up to power you don't need a gen. no model has to have a gen for heat.

Bill, Bobby is correct. If he is still having problems with his furnace, please start a new thread about a furnace problem and many here will attempt to help. In addition to the above, he has to have a good battery. The control board on the furnace requires 12 volts to work. Even when plugged in to shore power. I'm not sure whether the generator would substitute for the battery or not. I kind of doubt it.
