We plan to purchase a 2002 3295RK. If our refrigerator is on the recall list what is required? Will we be given a new refrigerator or will it simply be repaired?

We had our ref. recalled on our S.O.B and it was just a small shield and only took about a half hour to do. I am not sure this is the same recall, but it sure sounds like it

Sounds like they are going to replace the boiler tube

kdeiss, you sure? This is an ammonia system so replacing boiler tube requires removal, disassemble old, install new, then put whole fridge back in...
I have the shield recall applied and amounts to a containment, fuseable link to shut down the burner and electronics which prevents coach from going up in flames.

In my old 2003 Big Sky, I had a recalled Dometic refrigerator. The repair was simple and quick. Mine was performed by a Lifestyle RV technician at the Branson Rally last year. He inspected the unit, changed some wiring, and installed a heat shield to protect from possible fire hazard. It took about 30 minutes.

However, the inspection revealed that the refrigerator had not yet failed and the "fix" was to prevent it from failing.

We have been through the recall. First they installed the shield thing. That took very little time. Then we took a trip and while on the trip the unit failed. It quit cooling since all the ammonia leaked out! The installation of the shield probably saved further damage. I understand that there was a chance of a fire without the shield.

When we got home I called the Dometic folks and they said they would repair and or replace the unit at their cost. Took it to my local dealer who did not believe they would cover a unit that was over 5 years old. But they did. They do have to remove the unit to repair it. Put on a new boiler unit and we're as good as new. At least so far!

I was impressed with the Dometic folks. At least dealing with this recall process. It could have easily cost us upward of a thousand dollars.

Ken or Ginny-- how do we find out what the model and serial #'s are for the units? I have a 2004 Monte and just wonder if the refrig falls under these date for manufacturing! PM me if you don't want to put the whole thing over the thread! Thanks!

We had our rig repaired at the Rally in Redmond Oregon last July. Dometic was there and fixed it free. When we arrived back in Ohio, we got a recall from Keystone but since ours was already repaired, no further work was required. 30 minute job by Dometic people.

We had this recall on our Montana 2955 over a year ago. It was only a minor modification (the shield as others have stated), and was done without any cost to us. We never experienced any trouble with the refrigerator--before or after the recall.

We did have a refrigerator to go out on a previous fifth-wheel and we had to replace it with a "rebuilt" unit. Even that was expensive and entirely our cost as it was out of warranty. On that unit we definitely had the "ammonia odor". We never had that on our Montana.

Have to jump back in here and say we got the recall from Keystone that was sent in a Dometic envelope. This looks like an entirely different recall than what was repaired last summer. I will be calling Dometic to see if there is another recall other than the shield.

Ok, here's what I got from a Keystone rep today. The recall that was fixed on our unit last July is the SAME recall we got the mailer on Monday. I didn't know for sure since ours was repaired while we were away from the unit. So, anyway, we were told to not worry about it, these recalls are sent out to anyone with the Montanas built in that time period even if they have already been repaired> Glad to hear that!

I'm VERY curious and confused. I remember this thread so I did a search and it's clear back in February, we just got our recall notice yesterday, which is four months later!! Now is the recall not that important or am I just not that important?? I'm confused and frustrated, our 2955RL is a 2006 so why would have our recall just gotten to us? Any thoughts??

I just last week received a recall on our 2005 Montana. I guess they have expanded the recall up to 2006 models. as someone has said before,go to dometic web site you need your model and serial number to see if you are affected.

Now is this a total recall, or just the modification required at a Dometic service center??? My S/N was included in the last recall, but I have not received any notice in the mail personally yet.
