Anyone have the factory installed rear veiw camera
If so and it is hte wireless model, we were wondering if the camera is located inside the rig or outside. If it is outside, where is it mounted?? We were looking at our rig Saturday which was supposed to have the factory installed rear-view camera option, but we did not see it on the outside. Never thought to look at the pin-box for an antenna. We were told the camera is hard-wired to the pin-box antenna where it then transmits wireless to the truck cab. Anyone know??

We have the factory installed unit. Back in November of last year they were using the voyager 5.6" color screen with rear mounted camera which is directly above the rear window. The camera is hardwired thru the trailer to a surface mounted antenna which is a white dome approximatly 3 to 4" in diameter directly above the hitch. Check the attached link to see what my camera and monitor look like.

John,
I assume the camera is mounted on the outside of the rig above the rear window??

Turns out I will have to go another route anyway. Found out today that Montana quit doing the factory installs of the rear view cameras on Labor Day. They kind of forgot to inform me and the dealer of that minor issue. It makes me wonder why, like if there were persistent problems with them or the like?? Waiting to see what Montana will or won't do, but the dealer has already stepped up to the plate and said they will do whatever they have to do to get one installed, they just won't be able to get it done by Saturday it appears. We will have to wait and see how long it takes Montana to get back with us.

I don't use the camera when backing into tight areas like I did with the motorhome. With the motorhome I didn't have the blind spots like the fifth wheel. Now, Jodi just takes a two way and help guide me back if I need to manuver the trailer back into a tight area.
We probably use the camera more on the road when changing lanes.
If I had to do it over again I would spent the money on the second ac unit.

I would not be using it too much for backing anyway, I am looking more for a rear-view type camera system for when we are on the road. We will be looking for full-time availability while we are in transport mode. If all else fails, we will refer the dealer to rvcams.com I guess.

We have the factory installed camera and use it all the time. Not so much for backing but when driving to see traffic behind and beside the Monty. I especially use it when passing a vehicle to see if I have cleared and it is safe to change lanes. Sorry to hear that the factory is not installing them.

i ran a backup camera from the license plate through the underbelly to the fifth wheelplate then to the cab of the truck .connects with the trailer wire .this works real well because it is hard wire right to the cab .use it for passing and backing up has a great wide view and works with the bikes on the back.also keeps a eye on the bikes to .

We use ours all the time but like most others, not for backing up. We didn't think we would like it but now we would not be without it.

What is everyone using?? Voyagers?? The dealer and Montana are stepping up to the plate to get this resolved. I am impressed to say the least!!! We will have a camera system and are looking at the hard-wired version of the Voyager color system with the heavy duty trailer connection.

We do have the camera but not the voyager. Voyager was considered among the top of the line. The unit at the Mid atlantic rally had the cam installed at the bottom of the rear window in the middle. IMO it should be at the top of the rear window in the middle. Our system is not wireless and has been perfect for nearly 5 years. We us it as a rear view mirror.

After having the OEM model for 2 years, I have to say I would not want to be without it. Unlike others, I do use it for backing up and like others, I use it as a rear view mirror. Many times we have found ourselves in a situation where backing is tight (read boondocking in unusual places) and the camera has been a tremendous help.
