MOC Great Lakes Chapter Boundaries

One of the things that needs to happen if we are to get a chapter going in the Midwest/Great Lakes Region is to determine which states are involved. I would like to propose that we start with the following:
Ontario, Canada
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, U.S.

If we could agree on the states, we could start looking at dates for our first MOC Great Lakes Region rally. Please keep this thread to either agree, additions, or subtractions. Thanks in advance.

Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but I am NOT gonna drive around that concrete jungle of Chicago ever again for any rally, etc.

I might drive to parts of Ontario, (those east of Windsor or Port Huron about 100 miles), Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana, for a weekend or extended weekend rally. Even to go to the northern part of Michigan is a good 300 miles for us. Tipton to Mackinaw is 300 miles. Des Moines Iowa from Tipton is a 2 day drive for us (and that is still going too close to Chicago for my health!)

I think Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa and even Missouri would make a great MidWest MOC Chapter. My opinion only, but of course.

Great Lakes MOC would be Michigan, Ontario, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio.

Kentucky, maybe a group with Tennessee, Virigina and??????

My 2 cents worth

I agree with Country Guy with keeping it central, maybe 5or6 states, Ohio, michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ontario and maybe Penn or Kentucky or both. My 2 cents too.

I agree with Al. Am from Western Ky & going over 400 miles is too much. Not for the International Rally but the smaller Rallies. May KY & Tn. & other states can get togather & have a
Rally.

The plan was to keep campouts to a three maybe a four hour drive, let say with the center point the Ohio, Michigan, And Indiana borders. Is anyone interested in trying to put something together at Play-more for about the same time as the rally in Reno. I know we will not make it as it is to far, Thier are some really nice campgrounds in the tri state area so if someone has any suggestions let us know and we will see what we can put together. Thanks Roman

We would also be interested in going to pla-mor. Reno would be too far to go for us also. The central location works good for us. We would be about 3 to 4 hours away. We live at the top of Ill. about 2 hrs west of chicago and I too would drive out of my way to go around chicago. Dont like driving around that city with a car let alone 50' worth of truck and camper. Let us know if anything comes of this or if there is any thing we can do to help. Thanks Terry

I also agree with Country Guy - if we're gonna call it the MOC Great Lakes Chapter, then let's try & keep it in that region - mainly for drive times. Other States could & should form their own chapter(s) for their convenience & driving comfort.

We should keep in mind that the reason for the chapters (I believe) was for weekend or 3 day get-togethers, not week-long ones. Just my humble opinion, of course...

We live between Cincinnati and Dayton area so we would be interested in anywhere in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana or Kentucky. If the chosen place is near us, we would be willing to search out campgrounds.

Well, from the responses, it sounds as if Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois are agreed to and possibly Ontario. Can we agree on that as boundaries, with anyone else who wants to come to our rallys welcome of course? Once we get the boundaries established, we could get a poll going on dates and locations (Pla-Mor?) for our first get together. I am trying to push this for a couple of reasons. First, we really enjoyed meeting other Montana owners. Second, I don't think we will be able to attend the big rally this year. And last, but not least, we really enjoy camping in our Montana. Plus, as long as we live in the midwest, we will have pink stuff in our water lines. I look forward to the continued responses.

Terrie sounnd good if we just pick a camp ground a post we will have a campout on this weekend, that way any one interested will be more than welcome. If any one does set something up please post what campsite number you will be on that way other members might be able to get a site close to other members.

Ron -
Thanks for checking the number of members. I will ask the administrator how we can get a poll going on a date and location, unless the majority would be happy with Plamor. In that case, they would probably put us all together, which would satisfy Roman's concern about which campsite everyone is at. I also was thinking that if we planned a fall rally, either the week before or after the national rally, we might get people going through on the way to or from the national rally. That way we wouldn't be exclusionary. What does everyone think about that?

Ron

Ron that sound good but maybe we should be two weeks later or before, that way everyone planning to attend the Reno ralley could take thier time and enjoy the trip and not be pushed for time, Just my oppinion. Roman

I agree with Glass Guy about having our regional rally a couple weeks befor or after the national. We just might make the national and would really like to take our time coming back or going to. But what ever we come up with will be for the majority, that is the only fair way to do a poll.I hope we can get something settled with the nat'l so we can plan our regional.

Good points. Since the National rally starts mid-week, maybe we can do a week and a half difference. If the National is the third week of September, then before would be close to school start and after two weeks would be getting close to October, which might be nice from a scenery standpoint - color season with the trees changing. Let's see what happens with the National after Lady RV is back online. Hope everything goes well with her father.

Ann and I would be interested in attending another get-together at Pla-Mor. We stopped at the sevice factory on our way down to Texas on the the 8th of Nov. The management at Keystone (Jeff and Garett) want us to let them know if we are planning anything next fall.

Now that we know when the Reno rally will be held we can start planning something in September at or aroung Pla-more. May be we can do a poll as to a campground in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana, any feed back will help to decided a location and get things rolling.
