Thief in the campground

Has anyone had this problem?. We store our Monty in the back of an active campground. Due to covenants we can't keep it at our house. First it was just a screw here or there and we talked to the owner who lives on site. Then when we picked it up yesterday a support for the ladder was missing and an end piece for one of the steps. How rude!!!!. What is this world coming to?????

What's the best way to replace these brand new parts? And prevent the vulture from picking us dry????. Maybe a web cam hooked to the top of the ladder watching??

Disgruntled....

Breaking and entering, yeah. But picking pieces off? Never heard of that before. I don't know what you could do in that environment. Asking management to install video monitoring could stop it, or at least reduce it.

There are web sites for many parts. A Google search for RV ladder parts will find one for those.

Sell the stick/brick house and become a full-timer in the Monty! Seriously though, sorry for your misfortune. Any possiblity of moving your RV closer to the office of the campground?

Is there any possibility that these screws came loose during travel? Fender screws are known to come loose (which is why I put spring washers on the backs. I could see ladder support screws vibrating loose as well. Just a thought??

At the Statesville KOA last week, woke up in the morning, took the dogs outside, and our sewer hose/connections, waterhose/connections/filter system, and wheel chalks gone. At least they did not take our power cord and progressive. First time in 30 years we have experienced that.

It's sad to have that happen. Even campgrounds aren't safe or storage facilities.

It's a mess. I found the support piece - it's actually called a "ladder stand-off" and it's $8.40. Go figure... I don't think they came loose since the round piece that connects into the wall of the Monty was taken too and it had 4 screws holding it in. They actually had 5 different screws to deal with - different sizes and shapes between the stand-off, it's ladder screw and the end piece on another step..... They worked hard for that hardware....

If they would apply that to something good this world might be a better place.

Mike and Lorraine - sorry to hear about your misfortune too. It's a crying shame!

Thanks for the sympathy. We did move it to the opposite side of the campground near a security light. I'm thinking of the spy cam (even if I don't hook it to anything since I don't know how to do all that - they might THINK it is working....)

Happy travels everyone!

It happens at private boat docks at Table Rock Lake as well. My friend has had to quit leaving his boat in his private slip. Last Fall, he went to use it after a few weeks of not being able to go to the lake. The Master Craft medallions on the back of the boat and the trim tabs were stolen. When he got backed out of his slip, the swim platform just floated off the back. The thieves had removed all the fastners, but hadn't come back yet for the wooden swim platform itself.

A 357 Magnum works wonders! I've found out that some of those wildlife game cameras placed in places that one cannot see but in view of the Monte works well also. If you can keep them from stealing those however too. We use them at our farm, as of now, but will be installing video cameras in the near future so that when activated the pictures are sent to our computer. We can also have them set up if the program is set right to call the sheriff if need be! Keeps the bandits SOMEWHAT leery anyway!

A high visibility sign stating "property under 24hr video surveillance" works well even if its not. Or might make them think again about what they're doing. Of course some theives probably can't read, so that wouldn't work either. I really do hate a thief. I had a guy come to my front door, at six in the evening mind you, shake my hand, asking about something I can't even remember now, all the while his buddy was in my driveway stealing my chainsaw! Broad daylight with us home! Doesn't say much about my observational skills, but thieves are getting more brazen all the time. Most probably don't even if care if they get caught because they spend most of their time in jail anyway. Did I mention I hate a thief!

Storing it in an active campground is inviting trouble. Go to a storage yard for RV's. No guaranty nowadays, but I feel a better chance than at an active campground where they come and go on a nightly basis. There are a lot of scumbags out there and petty theft is worse than ever. That is why I padlock my portable EMS to the pedestal. Not a guarantee with someone with bolt cutters, but a deterrant.

I keep two Game Cameras on my RV at storage. They are an inexpensive way to protect your stuff. Resolution is very good and I can read license plates. Find unwanted guests snooping all the time.

What brand and model cameras are you using? I keep mine in a "secure" storage lot and the pusher was broken into twice over 3 years. So far the Montie has been safe, but I know it is coming. No where is safe any more.

How do you secure the game cameras? Seems those would be easy to make off with.

Hi

I put wireless surveillance cameras around my place about a year ago. I have reduced some of my service bills by going to the service company with the video clip on my laptop computer and showing them they were billing me for services I didn’t receive.

Now all I have to worry about is retribution from fired service personnel. LOL

we are fortunate to be able to keep the Montana along side the S&B. We have not yet had a problem in 6 Rv's and 25 years.

Wow.

I emailed Keystone to find out who made the ladder so I can order parts but no response yet. We have a trip coming up so I need it soon. Couldn't find any name or brand on the ladder itself.

Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone!
