Grey Tank Handle

Went to close the valve for grey tank 2 and the control rod broke up inside the covering. Don't know for sure whether the valve is closed or open. If it is open wouldn't be to much of a problem because we always pick camp sites with full hook ups. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem.

Haven't had the problem, but if you look at the piece that was in your hand...it was probably aluminum and split open where the threads are. If you cut a small flap in the bottom material, you will be able to see where the rod screws onto the valve. You should be able to figure out how to do a workaround or fix. John

I have not had the problem, so can't help.

But I would suggest you add the floorplan and year model of your Montana to your signature in your profile to help those who may have info on the problem. Montanas have been around 15 years with a lot of different floorplans.

Well I wasn't able to re-attach the aluminum control rod but after I enlarged the whole is was able to reach up there with my fingers and operate the valve. That will be enough to allow me to keep on traveling till I can get the unit back to the dealer in Thurmont Md and have it repaired. The unit is still under warranty till April and there some other problems that I have had that have to be taken care of. The other problem we had was with the washer drain hose under the bed. The hose was broken and the first time we used the washer we had a water fall in the cargo bay. This is the second Montana we have owned both of them were new from the factory but we had problems with both. Just don't think the quality control is very good. May have been at one time but I think needs to improve.

That washer drain hose is a problem in other brands also. We have a nearly identical bedroom floor plan in an SOB with the Washer in the slide and drain hose under the bed, and had a similar issue with the flex hose pulling off the black plastic drain pipe, resulting in a shower below.

I was able to find PVC fittings at a hardware store & using a hose clamp & form a gasket for a temporary fix that doesn't leak.

Ours broke the first long trip we made. When I contacted Keystone the lied about it and told me they never heard of that happening. After getting on MOC I find it is common.

What happens is the vibration of the rod while going down the road wears the side wall of the ¼ ID aluminum tube and it breaks. I screwed a long self taping screw into the broken tube that sticks out past the frame far enough for me to get a hold of it with a pair of pliers.

On our trailer the under belly was not difficult to get down along that part of the frame so I could reach in and unscrew the rod from the valve. I then found a self taping screw that fit tight so it wouldn’t vibrate out of the tube and long enough that it would stick thru the frame. The self taping screw is hard and doesn’t seem to wear. The tube is ¼ ID and can be taped with a 1/6 inch thread tap if you desire. It’s been 5 years and 80,000 miles now and I haven’t had any more problems with it.

I had the black tank handle and about 5 inches of the cable break off in my hand. Luckily i was at home cleaning the tanks.
Trailer was only 8 months old.
Took it to the dealer, and they repaired it under warranty.
Now having trouble with the black valve not opening and closing.
