Suburban Water heater

We looking for an answer to a problem we've discovered with our water heater. The electric side of our water heater (model number SW6DE) does not work, propane side works fine, but the electric portion will not heat. The element is showing 10.1 ohms, the on/off switch is good (just replaced), there is continuity from the element to the thermostat and high temperature shut-off switches. There is current going into the water heater; confirmed by checking under the kitchen cabinets. Any ideas what might be the culprit?

I had the same problem/symptoms and found that the common/ground (white wire) on mine inexplicably failed somewhere "upstream" (presumably in the WH as the Breaker checked out fine), so I disconnected the nonworking white wire and hotwired that side of the element with a supplemental white wire (from some spare ROMEX I had) to the frame of the Water Heater and its worked fine since. I've found one other RVer who was an Electrician and he had the same problem and fix.

Otherwise I assume I would have had to disconnect and remove the Water Heater to track down the short or whatever the problem was. Way too much effort!

Maybe you're another victim of the mystery ground failure...

Perhaps some wiser MOCS have a better solution!
Maybe Suburban needs to be advise if this is becoming a too common failure.
