Disconnecting Water Lines to Washer?

When I was un-winterizing my rig, I was wondering if anyone has disconnected the water lines going to the washer? I don't have a washer installed nor plan on installing one in the foreseeable future so I was thinking about disconnecting the water lines and capping it as close to the pump as possible to simplify winterizing and de-winterizing (and one less set of line to worry about). I need to pull off the panel and see how it would look but seems like it would be straight forward. Thoughts?

Don't have washer or dryer either, but am going to install shutoff valves in basement so that I or someone else can just turn them back on to have the functionality. John

Sharkbite ball valve makes it all pretty easy. They were less than $17 a piece last time I bought them.

I have that on my "to do" list also, just haven't gotten around to it. Not only simplify winterizing, but eliminates a place for bacteria to grow in the stagnant lines. Also eliminates a possible point of failure of a valve which would flood the bedroom. Can't think of a downside if you are not going to use a W/D, except possibly resale interest.

This was on my mind too. If you put a valve on the lines where do you think the best place would be, up under the floor in the basement?

Thanks!

The caps are fine but if you are worried about resale the ball valves allow you to put the washer lines back in service with the turn of a lever. I'd put them in the basement as far from the washer as possible. On my model that is right past where the lines go up to supply the vanity.

On the 3800 and probably similar models the lines go from washer spot in hallway, under bed, through floor to basement, then across basement ceiling and then behind the plastic wall to hookup central. I am currently trying to make up my mind where I wish to install them. I have the compression tool to install copper rings on all metal pex fittings, so I don't worry too much about failure. John

On ours the lines to the W/D were connected at a "T" fittings which I replaced with 90deg elbows. I put the old fittings in a baggie and taped to the water line in case I or the future owner wants to convert back. I've had no problems with foul water odor since.

Ball valve is simply a kind of shut off. They have a ball inside as opposed to a 'gate valve' etc. Most quarter turn shut off's are ball valves.

I must have gotten lucky back in 2004 our monty had the W/D lines, and I never winterized them, never though of it Damn, now im thinking of the lines I have in the current unit. Im surprised they don't install valves in those lines already, since im sure a lot of people to actually hook up a W/D even though they have the prep I doubt id ever do it, at least with my current unit. when I finally retire and kids are gone, im sure ill have something different.
