Clothes rod fell down

Checked into CG outside of Oklahoma City tonight and discovered that the front closest cloths rod had completely pulled out from the ceiling and fell. Ten 1" screws came out and the entire left side fell, bending the rod in the middle. The right side ready to give way! It wasn't like we had a bunch of heavy jeans or leather jackets hanging on it either. I tried to straighten aluminum rod but when I screwed missing screws back in they just went into cheap 1/8" ceiling liner (same holes). I put more screws in extra slots that were not being used but I am sure it will not hold. Anyone else have these rods fail in the newer designed units?

That was one of the first things that broke on our 06 3400. Replaced the flimsy rod with a one inch pipe rod and re enforced the right side with a 2X4.

No problems with the "holed bar", but one of the the first thing we did was install a Clothes Rod below the OEM "holed bar". Our Rod is a telescoping design that has End-Supports that screw into the side walls of the closet, plus I attached it to the OEM bar at the center and at one hole out from each side with zip ties. Our modification was prompted from our wish to slide our clothes back and forth on the rod.

Been there and done that also, what we did was went to Home Depot or Lowe's and purchased some I think it was 1/2" steel pipe, it was threaded on both ends. But who cares about that, and slide it inside the bent clothes rod. This will get you by.

Been there and done that also, what we did was went to Lowe's and purchased some 1" pvc pipe and a 1" tee. Split the tee and made a brace in the center to the floor. That supports the rod. Have not had a problem since.

After looking at the ceiling design closer I suspect this aluminum holed-rod was simply held in place by the short screws going through the thin ceiling material, with no wood or metal ceiling joist behind it. If that is the case, it is an extremely poor design that will fail in time depending on how many miles the unit gets on it going down the road. Based on what others have done I think I will install another clothes rod under the existing one. I can support it on each side wall plus on each side of the closet dresser. I may or may not have a service center repair the original one first. Thanks for everyones input.

Our older model didn't last the five months to get to the Rally and make Keystone fix it and that was probably a good thing. Went to the lumber yard and got a wooden rod and wall mount end brackets and then used bigger screws, bent the original holders (they were the only part of the deal that was strong enough for the job) to fit the wooden rods, drilled a hole in the original holders and screwed them to the wooden rod. Since we full time we do carry a ton of clothes up there and so far so good.

Cut a "V" in 1x2, cut length floor to rod. End of problem!

Did almost that exact thing. The first big Box store I came to in Amarillo this afternoon was a Walmart. Found two short expandable shower curtain rods with wide rubber ends. Our model has the short dresser in the middle of the front closet. I positioned one on each side/edge of the top of the dresser and locked them into place up against the factory rod. Total cost 11.98 for this temporary fix.

As soon as I picked up our new unit I put a brace in the middle because I knew the rod was going to come loose sometime in the future.

Eep! You have the same floor plan as we do. I was thinking ours was different since our closet is in a slide out in the back. Guess I'm going to have to go out and check it.

If your rod is like ours you will see a long space without any support in the middle. This is the weakest link in the rod.
