Fire
These pics are about 50 miles due east of us here in Pojoaque/Santa Fe, New Mexico and were taken out our Monty's livingroom window. So far the wind, 50 mph gusts, is blowing away from us. This started out as 50 acres and by dark yesterday had gown to 500 acres. As of noon it was around 1000 acres and growing.

This is always sad to see... the damage, destruction, possible loss of property and life, affect on nature. You always have to wonder if the cause was natural or manmade and how long it's gonna be before things are right again.
Fortunately, I don't think this will affect you, but it's sure sad for the "other guys".

We think we are safe, but now we have a new fire west of us about the same distance. Kind of scary seeing big smoke on both sides of us.

One of the times you can be glad your house has wheels. Fires are a horrible thing for people and animals both.

Hope the winds continue to blow away from you.

We got to looking at maps and talking to the locals and we should be ok no mater the wind direction where we are at right now. The reason being we have a rock mountain between us and the fires on both sides of us. In other words, although we could see a lot of orange sky and smoke last night on the west ridge, there's just not much fuel for the fire to burn to get here. We're not letting our guard down as there is some fuel, just not a lot of it. Thanks for all the "well" wishes, but I believe we are safe for now.

I believe that one was caused by lightning.

As I understand it from the local news, both fires were caused by electrical lines falling from the bad winds we've been having. Although, there is a chance of thunderstorms today. Unfortunately, they have a lot of rainless thunderstorms out here where lightening from the storms cause a lot of fires. New Mexico is in their 3rd year of a very bad drought and everything out here is pure kindling.
