Two big state remain: Washington and Oregon. We hope to fill them in, maybe this year.
David and Shirley,

Kris and I both grew up in Oregon, and now live in Washington. You really do need to make the trip up here. We lived in Texas for about four years too, which was quite an experience. We drove down with a Ryder truck and an auto carrier, and moved back via a different route so we got quite a few states that way - (do those states count for our map??) Both areas are beautiful, just different. Maybe you can make the rally that Carol was talking about.

They count Seahunter as long as you fill in the spreadsheet and according to Robbie's requirement 'made love' in the state...now wait...did you have to make love in the rig or just in the state?

Thanks, friends, for the kind responses. We filled in the "backbone" of the nation in September of 2012: South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas. These were all states we had never stayed in with our RV before. As I mentioned, we had reservations in Iowa at a state park which proved to be inadequate, so we had to move back over into South Dakota (but it was in the Sioux City area, and we spent time in that area.) We have towed across Oklahoma several times, but we decided not to stop at Beaver's Bend State Park on the last night of that trip--home was calling!

We are intentional about getting up to Washington and Oregon, though I have to remind our friends here that we are now officially SOB. We have so many good friends on the MOC that we feel very much a part of this community. In fact, we have met many of these Montana owners "in person," and have had three Montana couples to stay in our back yard.

Even though you now own a SOB I think you should still make it to ALL of the rallies!!! I used to ride a Sportster1200 Harley but I was often seen riding with Goldwingers, and CrotchRockets!!! I guess many people would call me a rebel...so be a rebel and come on over to the rally! Then you could mark the map and your spreadsheet!

Thanks, Carol, and I do feel right at home here--welcomed and accepted.

This thread got me to thinking about our travels and where we had spent the most days/nights. I went back over my computer logs for all four of our fifth-wheels to see which state was the "winner."

I'll share only the states where we have stayed more than 10 nights: Colorado: 196; Texas: 164; Florida: 95; New Mexico: 38; Georgia: 33; Alabama: 26; Louisiana: 24; Arkansas: 24; Mississippi: 22; Kentucky: 19; North Carolina: 16; Tennessee: 15.

An interesting exercise and somewhat surprising result

Wow, you folks have had some wonderful trips David!

This got me thinking too that maybe we need another thread to share our spreadsheet ideas on how we log our trips. Mine is pretty simple and just has date, number of nights stayed, destination name/address, miles traveled, and a "notes" column for any special details.

Thanks, Seahunter, we have really had some great trips. In June of 2011 we went up to Maine. In June of 2012 we with up to Ontario with some great stops along the way. Went to Niagara Falls for our first time then visited Montecello on the way home. In September 2012 we spent a week in Custer, SD, then went on up to North Dakota, over to Minnesota before heading back south through Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

I use a very simple system for my log. On a letter size page I have a checklist on one side and a log on the back. We carry this in the trailer. Upon returning home, I then put the log information into an Excel spreadsheet. That is where I got the information for the post above. I think I have posted my log/checklist before, but I'll put links for a PDF file for each side of the page. The checklist is easily modified with a spreadsheet, but these are the items I check off before departure. (I have never needed a checklist for arrival.)

Here's my vote. Since I bought this map at Camping World (mostly an RV store) and since the map is on the rig, it's being used to mark wherever the rig has been (and us in it, too). So far we've only been in the southwest (California, Nevada and Arizona) and we've also overnighted in the same states that are marked, but if we traveled to the Eastern states where they are smaller in size, it could take two weeks to cover the northeastern states and at an average of 300 miles per day, if we wanted to include overnighting as a criteria and we're probably not staying in every state. I personally have been in all but 5 U.S. states sans the RV, but will not mark this on the rig's map, because the rig hasn't been as many places as I have. I have also been to many Caribbean countries and Europe and these will not only not get marked but the rig won't ever be there.

I think the goal of the map is to be a great conversation starter, period! It's certainly inspired quite a few posts so far and the options on its use sure do vary. Use it however YOU (and your spouse, Robbie) want to use it. I know how I use mine, but it has not stopped me from asking others about what theirs means and there have certainly been differences. I realize with my mentality, Hawaii will never get filled in, but we are okay with that. DW & I have no plans to ever go to Hawaii with or without the RV, unless they build a bridge to it and I can tow the Monty there, NOT!

It is definitely a conversation starter. Look what it has done on here! Glad to hear you may be able to get out on the road again with you grandkids Art! That will make for a whole different set of memories. Plus you get to expose those young minds to new places! You never know what they are going to learn when they are on the road!

David it sounds like you have a great checklist and log system. I have a pretty good checklist that started as DQDick's checklist and then modified for us. The part I am not so great at is the log. I need to work on that!

I didn't see this part on my little phone seahunter but that is a great idea! Do you want to start it? I don't feel I can post DQDick's spreadsheet because it was his first. We only switched (Catch Cats to Crate dogs) and a few other minor changes. I keep a handwritten log that I have been seriously remiss in filling out! I will have to fix that pronto!

We we counted states that we had spent money in. During the northeast was kind of quick so we decided to stop several places and buy a soda then filled in the map. I think the map is a great idea no matter how you want to use it. (Robbie has a grreat idea, although you know Robbie)! lol

Love it Phil! We are thinking of running over to Pennsylvania this summer and you are right those states are so tiny...we will have to do the soda thing! Then my map will have a disclaimer that in each of the Northeastern United States a soda was purchased which validated filling in the map! ;0

So many creative ideas here!
